Hi...I am new to this forum...didnt even know it existed until tonight when I was looking around at OTHER FORUMS.  Boy was I happy when I saw this forum!    I have been diagnosed with FMS about 8 years now...I have been on ZOLOFT and NSAIDS and low dose muscle relaxers.  I went off the NSAIDS when I had WLS and now almost 3 months post op and 56 pounds later I am in TERRIBLE pain!  My tail bone is aching when I get up or down!  I bought a ****yx pillow (2 actually one for home and one for car) but its not helping.Went back to Rheumotoligist last week and she said it is related to my FMS...increased my zoloft to 150 mg a day and gave me FLEXERIL 30 mgs at bedtime.  She didnt want to give me NSAIDS bec of my pouch.  It has been 3 days and still no better! Have appt with orthopaedic surgeon tomorrow...(past X rays were normal of spine) will ask him for MRI tomorrow! Ok..for the questions:    Any suggestions?  Anyone have this pain post op?  Do you think it truly is FMS related? Any info would be greatly appreciated...I am running out of pain killers from my PCP and the rehumotolgist doesnt want me to continue taking them!

Don't you love how the Drs who don't hurt, are the one who don't want you to keep taking pain meds?  Gee Whiz! Anyway hon, I am really sorry that you are having so much pain.  I totally understand and sympathuize, as do all of the other women here I am sure.  As I loose weight I notice I hurt more.  I am loosing my cushion.  Sounds to me like you are doing the same.   My only advice would be maybe to try to go to a pain clinic, or try to find a different rheumatologist.  You need Drs who are going to treat your pain.  Fibromyalgia is a pain syndrome, and sometimes it requires narcotics to handle the pain.  Ask your PCP for a refferal to a pain management clinic.  Or explain your situation to your PCP and see if he can help you.   Good luck to you!  I hope you get some help soon!

Thanks so much for your reply Princess...Its nice to know I am not alone with these pains! I was referred to a pain management specialist but I am scred!  I had shots in my feet years ago for pain and they HURT LIKE HELL!  The thought of them in my back near my already painful tail bone makes my eyes tear up! I finally got my surgeon to OK NSAID's so I am going to start them tomorrow and HOPE it gives me some relief! Thanks again for your kind words!

Hi there! I had the tailbone pain too. After I had lost the majority of my weight they finally did MRI's. Seven in the last 15 months. I had a ruptured disk at L5/S1 level. They had blamed all my pain on being fat for years. They finally diagnosed my fibro last year and the ruptured disk. Had fusion in January and go soon for xrays to see its progression. Hope your surgeon has you on something to protect your stomach with NSAIDS. I hope they get to the bottom of your problem. I finally had to go on disability but when i had a sit down job the pillows were no help. Id come home from work and lay on my stomach and cry from tailbone pain before they looked for the problem. Best wishes, Shannon

Hi Shannon thanks for your reply!  I am glad they finally found what was causing your pain!  Better late than never I suppose! Yes the Dr has me on Nexium daily to protect my tummy. My question is this:  Why so many MRI's before they found you had ruptured the disk? I am going to demand my dr give me that MRI NOW!  I will just tell him to HUMOR me and write the script!  I dont want to wait years before they look deeper and find somethng REALLY wrong that could have been corrected! Are you in pain after the fusion? OHH yes the ****yx pillows I spent a fortune for have not seemed to giveme any relief.  All I want to do is lie in bed! (ON TUMMY) Thanks again and hope you aRE FEELING BETTER

Some of my MRI's were testing before they diagnosed Fibro. Think they were just checking to see if there were other back problems. Had a couple others after complications from epidurals and other procedures they did on my back.  I still have fibro pain after fusion. If i overdo it or move the wrong way it still hurts. It takes months for the full healing effect. I did have more feeling in my numb leg when i woke up from surgery. Immediately after I had pain from staples and lots of soreness. I hope the xrays show that it is fusing together. Will have them done sone. Were supposed to be yesterday but I was at ER w/ stomach issues.  Make sure if you get more pain meds to take something to go to bathroom. I have a good feeling that is what started all my stomach issues from constipation.  Best wishes, Shannon

There is a tailbone pain thread going on in the VSG part of this website.  Check it out:  http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/VSG/a,messageboard/action,replies/board_id,5463/cat_id,5063/topic_id,3611559/ It seems a bunch of us have the problem, whether we are pre-op or post-op.  NOTHING helped me until I got injections in my lower back.  They weren't pleasant, but I'd do them again in a heartbeat for the relief I got.  Hope you can get some relief as well! --Dorothy

I am seeing a pain management specialist...had one shot so far...lasted 4 days then pain back as bad as it was before shots!  I go for another shot this coming Monday..hope to have longer lasting effect?  Dr said if I dont he will NOT even bother with the shot a third time.  Then I dont know what I will try next...just that the dr said we may have to get even more aggressive than the shots.

Glad the shots helped you!  Dr said it was a 50/50 chance either way...guess I ws one of the unlucky ones.
