Hello, I had lap band 8-31-04.  Long story, had complications, pregnancy, TPN, Lap band replacement in 2007.  I have lost 100lbs.  I have a 20 year history of back pain (since I was 12).  I have bulging, degenerative discs, pinched nerve, and a tear in my SI joint capsule.  Anyway, went to a pain management specialist several years ago for injections.  Currently going again.  I told him of the all over muscle weakness, pains, and joint pains I have.  He did the test on me where they push on muscles and ligaments, asked a bunch of questions and said I have fibro.  I was in shock, went home and googled it and read the symptoms to my mom and she said it sounds like me and my dad.  My question is this: Does anyone think this happened after WLS?  I have chronic back issues but this other stuff started after the band.  I'm just grasping for an answer here.  It said from one source I read that chronic stress, fatigue, trauma to the body ,etc. brought it on.  Could the band be it?  I haven't read all posts as I am at work.  I will read more tonight.  I'm just so glad I found this.  Sorry it's so long.  I am only 32 and have an 8, 5, and 2 year old and I have to work.  I'm sure I'm just like everyone else on here, I would just like to be able to do things other people my age do.   I'd be happy doing daily chores and work without pain.  Thanks for listening.  Jenny

Hi Jenny, I just found this board tonight.  I too have FMS, diagnosed 4 yrs ago. I'm going to have the DS, hopefully soon. I don't know what causes FMS, extreme stress brought my to a head. I'm still trying out certain meds to see what works best.  That's one reason I'm having the DS, so I won't have a problem taking any meds. I know you have your hands full, w/ small children and , it will take effort to make sure YOU get your rest. Let's keep in touch.

I have the same degeneration problems as you. I had spinal fusion for ruptured disk in January. I always thought something was wrong with me preop for years. It was always being blamed on being fat. I think i had this long ago. After weight loss it was blamed on no cushion until I round a rheumo that thouroughly tested me. Blood tests were done to rule out anything else. I am sad about it alot due to losing all this weight. I do think i will learn to adjust more and live a more productive life. I am currently in physical therapy to help with strengthening after back surgery. It causes great pain some days but has boosted muscle tone and even caused more weight loss surprisingly. Best wishes to you! shannon
