I have FMS, CFS, OA, Sleep Apnea, degenerative disc disease, and lots of other stuff going on.  I am also obese.  I was curious how those of you with FMS are doing after WLS?  I am hoping to get WLS in 2008 but was concerned about getting turned down by surgeons since I have FM.

Hi there and welcome. I did not find out about all my problems until after surgery. Before it was just lose weight and pain will go away. There are others here that had it before surgery and may be able to help you more. I know I had it then but was just ignored. Best wishes. I wouldnt think that would hold u back depending on the surgeon. I am happy I did have wls, if not i may not be walking. I have many of the disorders you listed along with a ruptured disk. Carrying all the extra weight wasnt helping mine i know. Shannon

Hi Soozan, Although, I am very happy I had the WLS, it did not rid me of the Fibro. My WLS  doc told me it would not either. I still have days that I suffer with the FIbro and I am 18 months out. If I had to do it over, I would because the surgery helped me in a lot of other areas. I don't believe they can turn you down for the surgery just because you have FMS and CFS.  Best wishes to you in you phlight for WLS.                                                    Phyllis

My WLS has improved my Fibro a lot.  I think it's partly because of the fact that I can exercise now I take an  Aqua jogging class 3 times a week and can really tell  when I can't swim.  I went from taking Indocin 2 or 3  times or more every day along with Flexeral to taking mostly Tylenol and an occassional 1/2 of  a flexeral   a few times a week I will take Tylenol 3 if the pain gets to bad.  There were somedays I had to take a pain pill in order to make it  to my car after work so I could make it home and then I'd fall in my recliner till bedtime.  Now I can actually do things after work and function as a normal human being.   I have lost 138 pounds and it has completely  turned my life around. Was told the other day my allergist that my lung function was so much better.  Now I told him that I have surgery he had for got and looked in my paper work and say yes you did. Evertime he'd see me getting my alllergy shot he would speak and double take. He couldn't tell what the difference wasuntil he ready that I lost 63lbs. and I had not been on asthmas med so there goes a lot of the meds I ws taking. Need to get blood work up for 6mos check up this week . hope to be of blood pressure or cholestrol med. something more are thryroid. I'll take anything. hi ladies

I need to do the water therapy but there is NO WAY i am going to be seen in a bathing suit the way I am now ... NO WAY

Once you have FMS you have it and it has you. I am on several meds and am wondering how I am going to be able to take them after surgery? I will probably have to disolve them in some liquid first? I take 6-8 big horse pills a day of neurotin, 3 big horse pills of muscle relaxer, an anti-depressant (it is small), 4 med size tramadol. I have a few other meds that I take as needed and only one of them falls into the small horse pill category ... haha. I saw a suggestion on another one of the boards to enquire with pharmacist about "liquid forms" of my meds. I better get busy on stuff. I think my surgery could happen much faster than I expected.
