Topic: RE: Leaving my daughter for surgery
Hello, I was in a similar situation, I have a 3yr old DD and a 20 month old DS...First and foremost I made arrangements for them to spend the time with a family member whom they really took to, and have fun with. It happened to be an Aunt from VA. I paid for her to travel to Ma. and back....it was worth every penny!!! I knew I could only go under general anesthesia if the kids were in the best of hands. My parents were willing to do it, but due to health reasons, neither are able to really "play" with the kids...so the kids don't have much fun, and I was afraid that if they weren't having fun, they would think about me and miss me more... I was also terrified that something would happen to me...god forbid!!! Then, when I really thought about it, I realized that if I didn't leave them for 2 or 3 days now.....I would be leaving them forever ...probably within the next 10 yrs....and they need me to be around a lot longer......Believe me, I know it is hard....I am a stay at home Mom and also never leave them........I told my DD who is a little older than your DD that Mommy was having an operation so she would be able to go and run around outside with her, and go down a slide.....This actually made her happy.....I was sure she understood I wouldn't be gone long....two weeks prior, I made a count down calendar and she saw that there were 14 days until the surgery and only 2 or 3 days before Mommy came home!!! She put stickers everyday and was really OK with Mommy going and coming back soon. I realize your DD is younger, but I think every option you have to help her will also help you!!!! Last but not least, and it is NO consellation ?sp she will not remember this when she is older, but she will appreciate having a HAPPY HEALTHY Mommy!!!! Best of Luck, and feel free to contact me anytime!!!!! Lori PS: I made sure both kids had new activities to do each day to keep them occupied....a new toy, Playdoh, coloring book and New Crayons...they love them!!! I even left a few special treats to eat!!!

Topic: I'm New to this...
This is my first post here and I am looking for friends to help me with my journey to successful weight loss. I have the support of my kids and my ex, but my family(mother, sisters and brother) are totally against this and think that I will kill myself. I don't have much contact with them anymore and would like to have someone other than my ex to talk to. So here is a little about me: In 2003, I had a stroke that rendered me somewhat disabled. I have use of my body, but the mind is a little shaky. When I received my disability, my doctor told me not to live alone, and my family could not take me and my kids. So my ex-husband offered his house. At first I was very leary, but we have been making this work now for almost a year. Since I no longer work I fill my time with jewelry making, quilting, crocheting and well......eating. I tend to eat emotionally and when I am watching TV. I am working on that, but it is really hard. Since I was accepted for the surgery(still don't have a surgery date), I have been talking to a counselor who works with people who have eating disorders. I just started so things are still new and adjusting is hard. Before my stroke, I wore many hats. I was a single mom, administrative secretary, religious education teacher, and volunteer Firefighter. With the execption of being a mom, the best hat I wore was the firefighter one. I don't remember much, but I have a plaque for being "Firefighter of the year" so I must have really enjoyed it. I have 3 children, Andrew-19, he attends UT at El Paso, a communications major, Matthew-15-my computer geek, and Martina-12(she is the talker of the bunch.) All three are in band and are very talented and smart.(not sure where the get that from I was not very good at either). I am not much for exercise, but I am trying. I guess that is all I can do for now. If I have not bored you yet, then how about being friends? I have a myspace page if you care to take a look: http://www.myspace.com/utepmom Jo Ann

Topic: FAMILY LOVE
Dear Dawn: I just finished reading your webpage and my heart swelled at the love and the pride I have in you. Your journey has been long, but the results have been amazing. Since you were a little girl I have always told you that you were beautiful. You are just as beautiful today as you have been your whole life, there is just less of you physically. Stay strong on your journey and always know I am 100% behind you all the way. I love you honey Aunt Sandy
