Howdy friends and family members!  My wife is scheduled to have her bypass surgery tomorrow.  Any special advice for how I can be as supportive as possible during the hospital stay and when she comes home in a few days?  She's understandably nervous and worried about the procedure and recovery.  So if anyone out there came up with something special to help their loved one through this, please let me know!

Your love and support will be key in the next few weeks. It is a huge transition at first. Just help her focus on the positive aspects and keep from being discouraged by the restrictions. It gets easier every day.

My husband bought me a nightgown that said LOVE  on it, just for hospital and recovery. I still have it and wear it.

Good Luck to you both,
Diana

Congratulations to you and your wife....this is very exciting!!!

Being supportive is so key.....encourage her on vits, water and exercise....try really hard not to eat nummy stuff she liked around her...it will be so hard....keep positive, giving her positive feedback, congratulating her on milestones, asking to do favors, complimenting her, walking with her, drinking water with her, etc....

Encourage her to get involved in support groups too.....

Congrats again!

Thanks Diana and Ann!  I will follow up on all of those suggestions.  Her surgery went terrific, and she was up and walking 5 hours after getting to her room!  Laproscopic surgery is amazing.  Now comes the fun part!  Thanks again for your suggestions and support.

Bariatric surgery patients cannot eat solid foods for the first three days after bariatric surgery because the digestive tract needs time to heal. After three days, patients begin to gradually add soft foods, continuing for a few weeks. Good luck!
