Nathan is 1 Month Already!!!! Where does the time fly???? Anyway, I have been procrastinating on getting his birth story posted too and finally will do a very short abbreviated version (the one for his baby book has turned into a novel) and also post some pics of my favorite over the last month....
Birth Story....
Nate and I drove to the hospital and arrived at approximately 8:45 am for our 11:15 am c-section appointment. As instructed, we pulled into the circle drop off section of the hospital (mind you, this is THEE busiest hospital in Atlanta aka as the Baby Factory as they deliver approximately 80 babies per day) and parked to go check in. I had all of the bags coordinated and we then lifted out what ones we thought we would need.
We started getting all checked in at the desk and were practically done when a security officer ran into the atrium and yelled "HELP! We are having one right here in the car in the circle parking lot"...Nate and I immediately looked and the car was pulled right behind our car and people went into "Code Blue" type of mode and ran to this ladies rescue. It was amazing and at that point I felt more and more rest assured that I was delivering our blessed little man at the right hospital. Long story short, the lady delivered her baby in the red truck (parked right behind our car), the baby was ran in and right past us (vernix and everything), soon the placenta came in and finally the poor woman who commented in her wheelchair "this will be some story to tell"....I sat and was stunned that all this happened right before our eyes and the other lady checking in was standing there with tears streaming down her face. The joy of seeing this new little life be born was somewhat overwhelming and very exciting......
Okay, now onto me and our little man...so after all of that excitement we got instructed on where to go to surgery.....it was a long walk with all of these bags.....we get there and the lady kind of laughed and said we definitely could not take all of those bags with us to the OR....guess she can spot a first time mommy and daddy anywhere...so Nate looked at me and said "I will go move the car and move the bags"....I went then with the nurse to get all prepped up....we got all hooked up to machines, got dressed, etc. After I got asked all of the questions and prepped a million times, Nate showed back up.....
My doctor came in and I begged him to be able to deliver at 11:11 am so we would have our baby on 11/11 at 11:11 am...he chuckled and said he would try....anyway, things then went pretty fast....the epidural got placed and I got a compliment for no complaints...lol....and then we got the instruction for Nate to get his gear on get ready for our little man to be delivered....the epidural was amazing and I could not believe how quickly and effectively it worked.....so amazing...BUT the wildest side effect was that I began to shiver VERY badly....so bad that my teeth started to hurt....they told me it was normal....we got to the OR and I got all moved over and strapped down and then Nate joined me....
We got very emotional at this time as we knew that we were so close to meeting our son...I started praying and crying.....and finally the shivering stopped....the nurses were amazing and telling me how well I was doing and that things were going well, etc. I asked when they were going to start cutting and she said "oh, they have been doing it for a few minutes now"....lol.....they next thing I heard was "this baby is going to be big...I see the head"....how lovely....anyway, shortly thereafter we heard the wailing of a little baby and Nate and I looked at each other and began bawling and just holding each others hands...it was so cute that Nate's glasses got all fogged up.....
All I wanted to do was know he was healthy and see him though...it seemed like it took forever and all we kept hearing was hin wailing.....FINALLY, all cleaned up and swaddled up, we were brought our little Nathan....he was beautiful and we just kept crying.....he was healthy and beautiful and OURS.....GOD IS SOOOO GOOD!
Nate went with Nathan to the recovery while I got sewed up and again it felt like forever....I loved hearing the nurses ask Nate what our sons name was and he was still crying and said "Nathan" through his tears....man I love this man....anyway....we stayed in recovery, watched him get his first bath, listened to him cry and just held on him....we started to try breastfeeding and he latched but did not stay on for very long...after two hours we got brought up to our room and just were in simple awe and amazement and more importantly in LOVE......he is all we dreamed of and more.....with his stats coming in at:
Weight: 9 pounds, 9 ounces
Length: 21.25 inches
Time: 11:29 am
A few highlights from the first month of his life:
- He was able to meet some friends of mine who came to the house, hospital and flew in from TX (what a nice help)
- He met his grandma after a week of life
- He was born in Atlanta, GA and now is spending maternity leave with me and Nate in MD as Nate had to report back to duty
- He took his first road trip to drive to MD. Therefore, he has already been in 5 states (GA, SC, NC, VA and MD) within 2 weeks of life
- He gained all of his weight back and 2 more ounces by his second week of life
- He had his first Thanksgiving with mommy, daddy, grandma in MD
- He has met Santa at daddy's work last weekend
- He is basically sleeping through the night (about 6 -7 hours at night) and eating about 4 ounces a shot
- He had his first professional picture taken this week
- He smiled by week 3
- He is cooing and definitely a good cuddler
The next few months promise to be a good bunch of things that will go on too (like meeting a pluthera of family members next week, getting baptized and celebrating Christmas). More to come on those updates.....
