This morning at 9am I got a call that all mothers dread... First before I go further Nasir is ok he's alive and no scratches on him.. however his brand new 07 F150 is most likely totalled. Nasir went on leave and decided to go visit friends in Collinsville, he's deploying the beginning of October and trying to get all his visits over with... so he got off duty Friday and headed to Collinsville... I have begged him never drive tired... its as bad as driving drunk in some cases... well he fell asleep behind the wheel of the his truck... lost control crossed the median slammed into a couple of embankments... Thank God he had his seat belt on, thank God the truck didnt roll because his new motorcycle was strapped in the bed.. Thank God he had not been drinking, Thank God he drives a big ass truck, Thank God he's alive... I told him I know your upset right now so I will save the driving tired lecture for later but you will get the lecture!!! If your tired.. no matter how great of a driver you think you are do not drive tired.. its still driving impaired whether you don't think you are.. as Nasir told me this morning.. Mom it happened so fast I just nodded off for a second... Debby

Hi Debby, I know exactly what you're going through. My son did EXACTLY the same thing several years ago, with the same outcome. He had his seatbelt on and was not hurt, but he BARELY missed an on-coming car in his trek across the other side of the road. So, like you said, never drive while tired even if you *think* you're aware enough to do so. My son could have not only hurt himself (he only had a scratch on one of his fingers) but he almost hit a car head-on and could have hit innocent people and hurt them as well. I'm glad Nasir is okay.
