medical test study..
on ME .. I'm gonna be in a scientific test study for University Hospital.. where I had my RNY altho the actual testing will be held at Children's Hospital here in Cincinnati.
I received an email from my surgeon's office giving information of one being done by the Endocrinologist Department. They are wanting patients at least 2 years out with no gastro problems. I called and spoke to a lady.. who screened me. She said that they have found that gastric-bypass patient's are experiencing low blood sugar now. Due to a Gut Hormone.. that we all have.
The study is 3 visits..
1st is 3 hours long.. iv in arm, drinking ensure.. and blood work taken
2nd is 4-5.5 hours long.. 2 iv's in arm.. glucose given and drinking ensure with blood work taken
3rd is 4-5.5 hours long.. with a synthetic hormone blocker given.. glucose given and drinking ensure with blood work taken..
I'm kind of really excited about this.. just because it's helping down the future on the WLS and others who suffer from low blood sugar. I know I have/do experience low blood sugar at times.. (not lately so much tho). And I've never heard of the Gut Hormone.. when I googled it made reference to memory no wonder I said mine sucks since WLS.. maybe it does *tie in together* some how.. ??
plus.. the money paid for time and stuff ain't so bad either... 1st visit $50.. and $200.00 for 2nd and $200.00 for 3rd!
Everything is still ago on June 25th. I go for my pre-op June 10th. I did buy some binders. 2 of the 1 stage binder and 1 of the second stage. If I need another 2nd I will order one.
We bought a lift chair this past weekend. That way I don't have to use any stomach muscles to get out of the chair. We thought it would serve dual purposes on down the road when Greg has his gastric bypass and one day his plastics if needed.
Thanks for asking ...
Love ya
Julie
WOOOOOO HOOOOOO.....I am so excited for you...remember to ask about vitamins, etc. Good idea on the lift chair....I had one of those too....and another good thought is a lift chair over the toilet.....it sucks having to get up after you go to the bathroom and that really helped me for the first few weeks after surgery......where did you end up getting the binders from? You will not be disappointed that you did that for sure!!!
I got my garments from Helpmeheal.com. I compared them with some of the other sites and felt they had a good deal. I tried it on already and it felt good, so we will see after the fact/
We get the lift chair on June 15th. Greg should find out more about his surgery date after June 23rd. That is his first consultation with the surgeon.
I can't believe in 4 weeks I will be having this done ....WHOOHOOO! Greg and I talked, and after the first of the year, if there is something else I want done, then I will do it then.
Love and Hugs
Julie
Oh awesome....am glad you are going to do that....it is great for the future of WLS patients...I always call us guinea pigs anyway since it is fairly new to the medical field.....I just did a whole bunch of blood work and not sure if I am low blood sugar.....and the gut hormone....hmmmmmm....the one thing we were ALL made aware of (at least I hope...the RNYers) that if we fail to take vitamins including the big B vitamins we can greatly affect our brain...that scared me enough that I take my B vitamins EVERY DAY and am FAIRLY good about my monthly B12 shots....nothing to mess with...I am getting old as it is and don't need to lose my memory now either...ugh!
Keep us posted on the test....and awesome on the money....I wish they could put me in a test about cleaning my house....lol
