Help - Switching WLS Doctors?

First of all, I love my surgeon - she saved my life - and have nothing bad to say about her or her staff. Unfortunately, her office in NYC means a trip to see her is a full day adventure. This is my issue: the doctor who did my gall bladder surgery is willing to take me as a WL patient. This means getting an adjustment is not a big deal and he would be nearby in an emergency. Has anyone else switched doctors? If so, why and were you satsified with the results? Thanks

I was in the same boat. My doc was a day trip and still does fills the old fashioned way. I went to a new doc for ease and for the prospect of having my fills done under fluro. My initial consult doctor at the new place was not the same doctor doing the fills. She (the fill doc) was a ***** and basically jumped me for being there. My band is perfect, she said, and no adjustment was needed. Posh. She wouldn't even take any out as I think I'm too full. I was totally disappointed and irritated that the original doc I spoke with was not the one doing the fills since I already discussed my problems with her. My original doctor would have listened to my wishes and adjusted me accordingly. So if you do switch, make sure your doctor knows the band. Is it a new procedure to him/her? Are you going to be a ginny pig experiment for them? Are you happy with the treatment you recieved during the gall bladder operation? I think that is going to be your best thing to reflect upon. If my new doc had been nicer, and more understanding of my INDIVIDUAL cir****tance, I would have been happy. I know I put off adjustments just because it's such an ordeal. It would be great to have a local doctor. That's the key to having the band work to it's optimal potential. Unfortunately, it's easy to put them off when I have to drive 3 1/2 hours to get a fill. I don't know what my next step is. I asked for my records to be transferred, so it will seem akward to go to my old doc again. I won't go back to the new doc because it felt like a total waste. So I highyl recommend to you that you know for certain. Ask the new doc lots and lots of questions before you switch. If it seems like a great thing for you, go for it.

I had to switch surgeons when I moved to Reno, then had to have a revision to boot.. I love my surgeon, his staff leaves much to be desired though... but they are helping me with an insurance issue so I can't complain to much... I would interview the doc make sure you like them... Good luck Debby
