Ok, I don't wanna jinx this, but **sshhhh** I still have electricity. There are over 500,000 homes without power in the middle to north eastern part of Okla. The roads are ok right now. My mom does not have power at her house, so she is driving here. In fact, she just called and said she was taking the "scenic" route because all of the ice was soooooo pretty. Dumb a....oops. Was that out loud? Anyway.... My State office building had no power yesterday. Some yayhoo who designed our system made it reliant upon servers in one location and you guessed it...that would be the place without power. So, as the big dog leader, I get my fat azz up at 3:30 yesterday and today to drive in. Yesterday sucked and took almost 50 minutes to make a 20 minute commute. We waited until our Director comes in (a great great man who I respect more than most) and make a decision. Well, they have about 160 people standing outside waiting for the word to go home. Uh, when the electricity is gone, the electronic key pad doesn't let you in the building, and it's 26 degrees, I'm goin' home. Anyway, we were finally sent home about 9. Today, raining like cats and dogs. Geez...but it remained above freezing. Easy drive in...no f'ing electricity in MY building now as well as the big office. Walk up the dang stairs with 1 flash light at 5:45 am. Only human in sight and certainly the only one who was driving slow enough to NOT drive into the dang trees that had split down the middle and fell into the street. Oh well, the woman *****ports to me (she's the manager of one of my offices) finally came in around 6:30 and we're calling employees on our cells. This sux, did I mention that? I've got all 120 people trying to call my cell while I'm trying to leave an outgoing message to go back to friggin' bed. 9:00 am and I can finally leave. My boss says, "have them call back at 11 to see if they can work". Huh? No, we're not working because your building has no electric nor does mine. I know as a division head I'm a dumb azz, but that had to be one of the dumbest things I've heard. Fast forward...1:45p. I've had 200 phone calls and 70 voice mails on my office cell. 54 calls on my private cell and about 39 calls to my unfriggin'listed home phone. Damn it. I told them to call by 7:30 in the am to listen to an outbound message for instructions. I'm tired. 3:00 and 3:30 am is way too damn early for me to be running around in ugly lesbian like boots and a parka as big enough for 3 people. grumble grumble grumble...and a mother coming down the "scenic route". I'll have to probably go fetch her azz out of a damn ditch somewhere. But hey, I have heat and electricity!!! I'm 1 out of every 3 Oklahomans with power. It's a good day. Was going to take a nap til I heard the mom was coming. I'll have to do a "tour" of devastation this afternoon.... Liz of the Oklahoma arctic circle
