Two series that hit the air waves in 1964 and are still seen in syndication all over the world many times daily. Fox has the rights to The Addams Family and Nick at Night often runs episodes of The Munsters. Interesting enough both were short lived series (2 years) but created a huge cult fan around the world. The Addams Family was named by it's creator, the famous cartoonist Charles Addams. The ABC series faced off against The Munsters on CBS. I remember both as a very young child and can remember watching first run episodes. Both series were cast exceptionally well with Carolyn Jones, John Astin & Jackie Coogan playing leading roles on The Addams Family and Fred Gwynne, Yvonne DeCarlo & Al Lewis on The Munsters. With Al Lewis passing away at the age of 95 in 2006 and Yvonne DeCarlo at the age of 84 earlier this year, only John Astin is still alive from the combined lead actors in these series. Take a vote, which one is your favorite monster sitcom and your favorite character from the serie(s). For me it is Uncle Fester played by Jackie Coogan. Visual gags like putting the light bulb in his mouth and it lighting up is still funny. Coogan was the child star that played with Charlie Chaplin in "The Kid", circa 1921. His parents took all his money and spent it leaving Jackie very little. Later on the Coogan Law was enacted protecting the financial interests of child actors. Happy Halloween, Ron
