I had a visitor..
actually it was a coworker/friend, Lyn's son.. Eric who is home right now from CA.. who is home right now from Irac. He looked sooo good.. he and a friend of his came to our work door and rang the bell.. I (being the awesome worker I am ) went to answer it. When I saw who it was.. I grinned from ear to ear.. and said.."come on in the office.. you've earned that right!!" He went and visited his mother.. and the rest of us. I thanked him for serving.. and just wanted to give him a big hug.. I wish I did He leaves Monday to go back to CA.. and then not sure when.. but then back to Irac
I pray for 'em all..wishing they all could come back home soon
anywho.. just wanted to share..
Hey Rhonda. If you can get his name and address in the military and email it to me, I can send him a goodie box from my staff, too. I've got one to Nasir last Friday, two more going out this week to him to give to friends. We've got 15 boxes filled with things for women and probably 2 more for men. I am going to send at least 1 or 2 boxes each month and take care of guys/gals I know of and the family/friends of my staff. We'll make sure we do this for at least the rest of the year...hopefully. If nothing else, cards from "anyone" stateside might make someone's day. And if the box contained personal items or better yet, oreos and candy, well even better.
Everyone who has family/friends over there, my heart goes out to them.

That's so cool Liz! I send a few service people boxes every now and again -- people whose names I got from anysoldier.com. I also send packages to one of my good friends who's been there just over a year now and will be for another couple months. sigh. But then he'll be home from his second and hopefully last tour.
(gets a little more on the war here in case anyone wants to quit reading...)
Oooh and I got so upset at someone who sent me a letter to the editor the other day! I printed it to be fair and balanced but I just sort of shook my head. He wrote because I'd written a Memorial Day column tthat said something about regardless of how you feel about the war, thanking the soldiers there is something we can all do.... He wrote in saying that might be the case for other wars but that this one is wrong and illegal and yadda yadda yadda and if it weren't for the soldiers, we couldn't be there so he's not going to thank them. Instead, he said, we should support Lt. Wahada, an army guy who's refused to go because he says it's an illegal war. I know a lot about Wahada because he's in the same stryker battalion as my friend who's over there and I can respect what he's doing but I found it hard to respect what the letter writer was saying. sigh.
Oh well...
And if this post was too off topic or political, I apologize in advance... thus the warning up there.
Oh, I just feel like it's something I should do. It isn't anything so cool, but thanks for thinking that. It just is that the nation was so gung ho at the beginning of the "war" to send boxes. Now that they've been there so long, some are forgotten. So, I think it would be cool to get things to people that we know and my staffs' family and friends. I tell them weekly (whether they believe it or not) that as many hours as we spend together at work, we ARE a family. So, take care of our own and that includes this board and people they have there. If anyone has a person they would like to be included, just email me their name and address and they will get a box.

My opinion: Support the people that are there. One does not have to support what the "war" is, but those people are putting a lot on the line to be there. They need to know people stand behind them as a person, not as a cause.
