Hi there... I posted this on the singles board as well but since so many people are here and I don't know who checks there anymore, I thought I'd ask... Does anyone remember who posted the note a few weeks back about the silly/funny lies our parents tell us? I am writing my weekly column on something along these lines and remember some of the stories were pretty darned funny and wanted to look the thread up. Thank you! Becca

I don't have a clue about the string however I would love to read your weekly column. Does your paper have a web address? Ron

Oh God... my column is TRITE. The paper's Web site is venturacountystar.com; however, the part I edit and write the column for is vc.yourhub.com. It's a citizen journalism site -- a new movement in media, sorta' -- where people/organizations/businesses/schools/sports teams/you-get-the-idea can decide what "the news" is by posting articles and such to share with the community. It's sort of like a town hall/bulletin board. The idea is that the news is hyper-local and often is stuff the paper itself wouldn't cover (usually because, given limited number of writers and photographers plus limited space in the paper, we just don't have the resources to cover them) or it could be that our editors just don't think the thing is news-worthy enough... In any event, we host 6 sites- one for each of our general communities in the county. Then, once a week our staff selects items from each site to get printed in a published version , which is delivered as part of the Tuesday edition of the full paper.... The printed version is where my column goes... though (when I remember) I also post it to my blog on the site (http://vc.yourhub.com/~BeccaBlog) Most of what I write is just trying to get others to post. Sometimes they're silly little folksie things and still other times I actually write an op ed piece. If you see something listed more than once, it's because I actually posted on all the sites rather than just one. There's also a little blurb about me under "the staff" at the very bottom of the site... but that's just a blurb. Later this month I'm writing a follow-up piece on Ben (who's occasionally on the singles board) and his progress. I wrote something last year about his surgery so we're doing a "checking in" article. That one will be on the paper's site. I'll probably post a link to that one because some of you guys know ben More than you wanted to know about me and my work... lol But thanks for asking. By the way, various papers around the country have YourHub so there might be one for your community, though I can't remember now if there's one there.

I find your explanation very informative. Almost sounds like a virtual town square and or a bulletin board. Cathy and I both grew up in small towns, her in Staunton, IL and I in Marlow, OK. She subcribes to the Staunton Times that is mailed to us, usually a week late, at our home address. When I go home one of the first items on the agenda is to read the Marlow Review, always a mainstay in Mom's living room. We both know all too well about the little folksie things and quite frankly enjoy them. It is one of the qualities of small town America, those once a week local newspapers. On a personal note, I make my living as a technical writer. A fluke indeed as English and grammer much less the written element is and always will be my academic achilles heel. None the less, due to the lack of funds as a college student I had no choice but to develop a working typing ability. Once I was asked if I employed the use of a rough draft when creating a document. To which I replied, all my drafts are rough. However the ability to type separated me from the pack as many an employer received a cost savings via the elimination of an Admin. required by my colleagues that lacked typing skills. You never know what may constitute an advantage in the business world and little did I know that the basic typing class taken in my Sr. year of high school would pay such great dividends. I cannot wait to tap in and read your articles or that of your colleagues. Thank you for the links. Ron

Thanks Kellee! I don't mind doing the searching, I was just hoping to narrow it down a little.
