In-laws NOT supportive - help?
I'm going on vacation w/ my husband's family in 2 weeks. I'm 2 mos. post op. I still can't eat a lot of different foods (so I'll probably be bringing ALL of my meals) and I'm scared to try anything new while on vacation. They're getting all angry because I'm not eating like they are. His mom is constantly trying to shove food down my throat. They say things like "god, is that all you're going to eat?!" and it's really condescending. :-@ I am dreading this vacation. What can I do? Help! :-S
Hi Sarah!
Isn't interesting that their reaction to the change in your eating habits has done a flip? I bet before you had WLS they were all angry about the amount of food you were eating.
My advise is that you consider the source. Have they ever been supportive? What is your relationship with them like? Are they jealous? If not yet, they will be soon.
Whenever you are being criticized, take a deep breath and think about how beautiful your body is going to look. Then, as you eat, smile, chew and enjoy. When they ask you about the quantity of food you're eating, you can respond with "That's all I need/want to eat".
Don't let their sabotaging ways interfere with your vacation. GOD BLESS YOU! If I were ever to consider going anywhere with my inlaws, I would prefer to have a gun put to my head.
Hugs,
Linda
