Has anyone ever had RNY-distal and then had to have the pouch banded or made smaller? I am researching this before I go to my appointment with my surgeon to see if I need another surgery because my weight has stopped for about a year now and I still am 100 pounds overweight. I have lost a lot of weight, but I am only half way at goal. I feel like such a failure.

Welcome to the club. I failed from the beginning with only a 70 pound weight loss and I too am still 100 pounds over weight. If you find any information on this, please share. I'd love to know if my enlarged stoma can be corrected.

Yes. It can be done, and has been done before to correct mechanical failure such as an enlarged stoma. I don't have more details .. if you research the Q&A forum, you should find others who have had it done.

Could you provide the link for the Q&A forum. I went to http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/ and looked under "other forums" and couldn't find it.

Hi...I'm deciding between the same thing...I starting at 502, lost 40 before surgery and only 130 during the 1st year after surgery and nothing in the 2 years since. I have held at around 330 since. It will be 3 years since my surgery next month. I am seeing one surgeon who has mention making the pouch smaller or bypassing more intestines and another surgeon who said he will band the pouch. I had some other needed medical procedure and now have to wait 6 months before having surgery so I have not made a decision as to which one I am doing but I am getting all the tests, appts. out of the way. E-mail me, we can share notes.

You should research the DS. Banding will make your puch smaller but the ds will change your shomach, allow you to eat more normally and has better statistics for weight los both short and long term. It would be worth your while to do some research. I'm having an RNY to DS next week. Check out the DS forum and DS.com for more information. Be sure you use a dr that is experienced in revision surgery. read some of the ds profiles. Please do this before you commit to banding your 'rNY. BethL

Beth, that post was really really old...I'm not planning on banding my pouch, nor can I have DS my insurance does not cover it.
