Gaining weight
I had my surgery 2 years ago. I went from 360 to 247 in the first year. I got a job at a high school cafeteria and have regained 50 pounds. I am scared to death. I can't afford a revision....let alone even want to confront my doctor about it. I was so sure in the begining that I would succeed. I messed up. School is out and I have lost seven pounds in the last 4 days. I am really trying to get back on track. Tomorrow I start my exercise program. I am just so worried that I will blow it again. Does anyone have any advice on how to stay on track? Should I talk to my doctor about it or should I give myself this summer (away from the food at school) a chance to get back on the right road? And if I do get back.....how do I handle going back to work when school starts again? If I lose what I need will that put me back in the right mind set? Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone help me get motivated? PLEASE! Thank you. Melodee
If you don't commit to making a true lifestyle change, there is no way to benefit from the surgery. Snacking while at work and not exercising is a recipe for failure. Just because you cook or work around food, doesn't mean that foods needs to end up in your mouth. You should plan your meals and eat nothing additional. If you've not been actively exercising...start. The surgery is a tool to get you started...not a cure.
Melodee, don't be so hard on yourself. You have kept off 60 pounds for more than 2 years. Have you ever done that before with a diet? I lost 135 pounds, then gained back 25 - which is about what the doctor expected. (only he thought I would only lost 100 which was 70%) I look at like, wow - I have kept off 110 pounds for 2.5 years. Yes! I am losing the 25 pounds with exercise and diet. I have about 10 to go. I found I can control my eating better when I take my vitamins. Vitamins make a hugh difference. How do you stay on track? You take one meal at a time. You give up one bad habit at a time. (My first one was - I had to stop eating until I actually felt hunger. That is a lot more tricky than it sounds! LOL) You had the surgery to become normal. Well, normal people have to diet from time to time. Come on - how many times in our lives have we lost 50 pounds? You can get control. It's not like you are back to 360! Get out your water bottle. Set your goal at 5 pounds. When you drop 5 pounds - you will only have 45 more to go! You can make it. We all can. We just have to do it. Good luck!
Yes..Please don't be so hard on yourself. I had my surgery 10-15-2001. I have gained about 25 lbs in the last 1 1/2 years. I am also in a panic state, but I have been going to overeaters anonymous and it has really seemed to help. If you are like me, you eat for emotional reasons and not nutritional reasons. If this is the case, surgery helps, but the weight will eventually creep back on. We have to heal our souls to heal our bodies. I wish you the best of luck.
