Hello,
Has anyone gone throught failed Lap Proximal RNYSurgery? I am trying to determine what went wrong and correct it.
I know that I had my surgery in April 2001 at Ohio State and didn't lose all my weight. I went from 215 lbs to 150 lbs. Then in January 2003, I started having severe abdominal pain and the weigth started coming back slowly each month. I thought maybe my stitches came out or something.
Now I have gained most of my weight back and seeking revision surgery procedure. I am considering Distal RNY Revision or DS (Dued. Switch) Revision. Has any one had these revision procedures and what is your outcome or success.
Also has anyone used Dr. Phillip Schauer for Distal RNY Revision Surgery?
Thanks,
Kathy
Hi Kathy, Did you ask this question over on the Duodenal Switch (DS) forum? Someone there may be able to answer your question.
I have heard of Dr Schauer, but don't know too much about him. Dr. Keshishian in Delano, CA is very experienced in RNY to DS revisions.

I was supposed to have Dr. Schauer for my original RNY surgery at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa (Aug 2001) but at last minute his partner at the time, Dr. Hamad was scheduled to do it. I can tell you, however, that Dr. Schauer has done RNY surgery for several people I know and is well respected and known for his work. Not sure, however, about his experience on REVISIONS, but figure it is also good simply because of his reputation on all else?? Good luck. I myself have regained from my lowest weight following lap proximal RNY of 178 up to my current weight of 202 and fighting to "relose". If you read my profile (Diana M. 2 of PA) you will see that from the first week's following surgery I always was able to eat more than others at my "stage" and never felt a "full" sensation for any lenght of time which makes me think my stoma and perhaps pouch was made a tad too large? I also have been "bad" about going back for yearly checks w/Dr. Hamad, so can only blame myself. I do not "blame" her at all for these issues I am facing 4 years out from original surgery. I am still 111 lbs less than I was 4 years ago and off huge doses of blood pressure meds and borderline diabetes. So AM a SUCCESS story working on keeping it that way ;0).
