Okay! Here is the story.. any advice is appreciated and greatly needed! I have been going to my PCP which is also my family doctor all 22 years of my life. As a young girl, I didnt start to develop being overweight until about age 15. When this occurred I was told him to follow a strict diet which did no influence in me losng weight. When I started college 3 years ago and went to the clinic for a common cold, I was told by the nurse practitioner that my blood pressure was EXTREMely high and that I needed to be placed on medication for this by my family doctor. He never mentioned this when I returned for future visits. Last May, he looked at me with no remorse and said that I had gotten so "obese" that he didnot want to care for me anymore and referred me to a endicrinologists. After seeing her for almost one year, fighting with insurance because she wanted me to do optifast, and other supervised diets programs that insurance refused to pay for, we sat and discussed that WLS might be my only hope to losing weight. She told me that she would write a referral letter to insurance, however, I would have to go through my PCP for a letter also stating the medical neccessary of this surgery. I have attended suport groups, joined a gym, and also followed various diets. I also have kept documntation of my blood pressure and weight weekly through my school nurse....but for some reason my PCP feels that I should try other forms of doets before WLS. This angers me because he never wants to see me or even ask about my progress but then when I have made up my mind about the surgery, he wants to tell me that I cant have a letter of neccessary! What would you all advise that I do in situation like this????? I wanted to switch PCP but I am scared that if I do this, I will have to go another 6 months before approval through insurance....and besides this I am only continued under my parents insurance until next January and then they will drop me.....I am so confused and scared.....any advice PLEASE!!!!!!!

I had the same problem my PCP would not write me a letter so I called my surgen and they gave me a name of a doctor that would give me the letter and it did not slow my time to have the surgery take all your medical records to a new doctor

Get all your medical records from this PCP or find another PCP and then have the old PCP send all your records to the new PCP and go from there. I had one PCP that caused my blood pressure to go up. I canned him ASAP!! Best of luck Donna 338/224 -114

Personally if it was me, I would switch drs... Even if you had to wait another 6 months its only 6 months compared to staying with him and him refusing to write the letter..

My PCP was acting up just the same. He thought it was a great idea to have WLS but he wouldn't write the letter. He kept saying, " I never had to write one before" He made me so mad, I felt like doing a John Q on him. I wrote the letter myself and he approved it. Was he just to lazy to do it? It's going to be a bumpy ride, so get ready. I'm still fighting and I'm not going to stop tell I win. Good Luck
