I had lap rny on oct.13th and have only lost 41 pounds. I started at 278. I work out 4 days a week, drink 64oz water and try to eat healthy. Nothing makes me sick and I don't dump. I can eat rice, pasta bread etc.. I tried the cottage cheese test and can eat 4 oz so I don't know what to think. My surgeon says I am on track but others at my starting weight have lost ALOT more than me and doing alot less!

Christine, I think you just need to relax. I too was a slow loser, but over 14 months lost 140 lbs. I did all the right things like you are doing. Be patient. One thing you must remember is that everyone *is* different. Perhaps you are measuring your loss against someone who has much more to lose. I know exactly how you feel...I had lost about 50 when three others in my support group had lost over 100 at the same point...one even had surgery after I did, LOL! What I can tell you is, *even* if you can eat pasta, bread, crackers, etc *please* don't. What you are trying to do is get yourself in the good habits of eating protein first, veggies second and carbs last. If you follow this, you will find that you fill up on the denser proteins like meat, chicken, etc., and then get some good nutrients from the veggies. The farther you run away from carbs the better you are. Don't forget this surgery is is intented to retrain you to eat healthy. You ARE doing everything right...you are probably replacing fat with muscle, if you remember anything from all those health classes, muscle weighs more than fat but *burns* more calories pound for pound. Take measurements in addition to getting on the scale. Actually just weigh once a week. My weight fluctuated from 7 to 8 lbs from morning to night depending on how much water I was drinking. 64 oz is the *minimum* shoot for more water. Don't drink milk or skim milk right now cause it is just loaded with sugar. Read labels carefully. Take you vites and supplements to maintain your overall good blood health. You CAN do this and you will be a great success...you certainly can't tell how you are going to do overall this soon after surgery. Good Luck, you will be a success. You have a wonderful tool that levels the playing field for you! Dennise Central IL WLS 8/21/01
