hI TO ALL US 2ND TIMERS. hELP-- I had a apt. with a nurse pract. in the first step of this process and I was told that if they did the surgery i wouldn't lose any weight. People who learned to eat around their first surgey would not lose or if they did it would be very little. I was shocked and really upset at being told this. I need others to tell me if their experience is similar, or what? Need help --- thanks

I had staples 23 years ago and had a revision RNY on july 12, 2004....I have lost 65 pounds and am doing great. I did have a stricture, but after dilitation have been fantastic...I am also 58 years old....so if I can...so can you...keep the faith...I would do it again in a heartbeat....Barbara

Hi Kathleen, I had a vbg done in 8/98 and I threw up everyday... had to have several dilatations done... but I learned to survive on fried chicken strips.. and sweets, and chicken salad... for 6 years I could not digest vegetables... or baked chicken... I had my revision done on 8/3/04... and I can now eat vegetables again.. it is a mental thing now for me.. learning to eat correctly after 6 years... not being able to eat right.... I have lost 40 lbs in 2 months.. and I would do it again in a heart beat... Good luck...

She lied. I have lost over a hundred pounds. I was under goal in less than eight months and have had to gain a few pounds back to be healthy.

Ok I am not a second timer BUT never listen to those people who tell you "YOU CANT" You just tell them YOU CAN! I mean honestly if there is something surgically wrong with you as in your stoma is larger than it should be I have heard that getting the band will help with that problem...so why she would tell you that "you cant" is beyond me. You get yourself a second or 3rd or 4th opinion if need be. We know ourselves better than they do. Alot of people like to pass judgement first and foremost...they think "oh she ate around her surgery she just cant control herself" when physically there is an issue! They pass these rash judgements. You hang in there and do what you need to do! I say go for it! Best Wishes!
