I hade an ileo-jejunal bypass about 30 years ago. I did loose weight, but also had the side effects of terrible diarhea, electrolyte imbalance, arthritis, etc. I had it reversed about 15 years ago, but of course regained all of my weight, plus. Now I am considering the RNY. Has anyone had a similar experience-? Because my insurance won't pay for it, I will have to have the surgery done in Mexico. RayB.

Hi Ray B. Where in Mexico are you going for surgery. I was denied by Blue Cross Blue Shield. I am having to go back throught a 12 weight loss program. to meet there wishes. I have heard people say they were going to Mexico. I would love to know were you are going and who is the Doctor and what you know about him. I wish, I could help you with your question but I can not. I did have a friend who had a liver transplant. He has had the WLS 25 years ago and had to be hook back up and did gain all the weight back. He had the liver transplant and now he had what is know as the sleve done. It is where they make your stomach like a long sleve and very small. They could not mess with this intestine. He has done very well and the last time I check he had lost about 80 lbs. I hope things go well for you and I to am trying to get the RNY. It is so heart breaking when you are denied we will do a appeal letter. Joyce Joyce

Hi Ray I know you posted a long time ago but I have had a JIB and just had it take down/revered and had a VBG I had wanted a RNY but I had a lot a of damage and the could not do a RNY I was very disapointed but I guess it is better for my helth but I have loss 33 lb in 8 weeks most in the frist 3 weeks but it has not been long so I guess I have to give it time . How was it for you when you had your JIB did you gain it back fast when you had it revered? I never did get thin with it I lossed around 85lb and went up and down diting trying to stay under 200lb untill I just could not do it any more . Then went up to 268 and had wls I got insurance to pay for the reversal but not the wls that I paid for my self so far $6000. not sure I am happy with the VBG but it is to soon to tell. Any way I would love to hear from you and how it is going for you allyson

Hi Allyson: I lived with the Ileojejunal bypass for 15 years. But, finally because of electrolyte inbalance, bacterial overgrowth and all the other problem associated with that type of bypass, I had it reversed. Yes, I gained all of my weight back plus 100 lbs. I tried every diet and eating plan out there and just couldn't keep the weight off. I am not a big eater and don't eat sweets or junk food. I am having the DS surgery performed on September 7th by Dr. Ungson in Hermosillo, Mexico. I'm going to try to put the details of my trip with lots of info in my profile. Give me a few minutes then check it out. The best of luck with your AGB. Ray Bechtel

I had the same surgery in 1981 and lost a little weight and gained a whole lot of problems. Finally, had an emergancy reversal in 2002 while having surgery for a bowel obstruction. I nearly died. I had RNY in 2003 and am very happy with it. I have lost 105 and am under goal weight and have actually gained seven pounds to feel better. Insurance was not a problem. I was approved the firts time and in just 15 days.

Hi, Ray. I had a jenunoileal bypass in 1976. I lost about 130 pounds, felt and looked great. I had continuous STINKY diarrhea. By 1983 I had developed liver damage and was told that I should have the surgery reversed or I would die. I actually had to think about it, because the prospect of being fat again was as bad as the prospect of death. After the reversal I regained the weight at a rate of 10 pounds a month, plus a little extra. I remained at about 275 until 2003 when I started on Actos for my diabetes, then I gained up to 292. My "new" surgery (roux-en-y) was done in Feb, 2004. I have lost 89 pounds and now weigh 203. My weight loss has slowed to about 4 pounds per month over the last 2-3 months and the awful realization that I will have to WORK (as in diet and exercise) for further losses is disappointing. But the REALLY devastating part is worrying about the possibility of regaining the weight. If I stayed at 203 for the rest of my life, I'd be satisfied with that. But regaining would really be devastating. So far, at 9 months out, I feel incredibly good and am very happy with the surgery. But only time will tell what will happen in the future. If you have specific questions, just email me. Good luck to you. Lynda

Hi folks my name is jim i had the intestinal bypass in april of 1980. my surgeon said it was a good surgery for the right person. I have had the dumping syndrome for 33 1/2 ys. I lost 180 lbs  in my first ten months, then had plastic surgery in feb 1981 lipectomy and bilateral  sub q breast augmentation's. it was a year of change and bewliderment.going from morbidly obese to looking normal i had many emotions pour out it was so hard to accept  the way people treat you when your "normal" looking as opposed to the hartless, cruel ridicule i lived my life with. I was 21 when i had surgery i think being really young helped alot. my body has maintained a steady wait sure its went up and only to come down again. I remember how embarrassed I was when i was admitted they had to weigh me on the freight scale on the loading dock of the hospital, most scales would only go to 350 lbs then, i was at 416 or so. as of today i weigh 183 lbs, which brings me to this i have not lost weight with out trying for years, now all the sudden i dropped about 18lbs which dosent sound like much but i have a large frame for my height  5' 7. I wonder if other post ileo-jeu bypass have had similar weight loss suddenly. any way best to all of you were in a special club and most cant relate to what we have gone through....Jim
