Hey guys! Well I'm back after being gone for 3yrs. This website along w youtube videos helped me tremendously while doing all my preop stuff. i had rny back in 2012 and went from 330 all the way down to 179. I swear i was probably at 179 for like 2 days then my weight started creeping right back up. It seems like every holiday season (oct-jan) i seem to gain an average of 10 lbs. Right now im at 215 and im trying to get back under 200. My issue i know for a fact are the snacks. I have 4 growing boys and my fridge has to always be full. idk what to do anymore. Ritz and trail mixes are my weakness an. I can eat them all day. I know my pouch still works because if i get a full plate of food i never fini**** Its all the slider foods that mess me up..Please tell me theres hope. My surgeons office offers services for patients that have regained but its diet pills by prescription and i dont want to pay thousands for pills when i had major surgery. this is such a mind game that id like to get a hold of

if you were able to do it once you can do it again. Make sure you drink your 64oz of water daily. I am a snacker too and I have found the best thing to do when I want a snack between meals is to sip my water. Its hard to do especially when you have little ones afoot but its best to do because you have little ones, teaching them good eating habits thru you. measure, measure, measure.. you can do this.

We sound almost identical the first few sentences....except I gained IT ALL back. I'm such a hose beast. I literally gained 130 pounds back. I used to HATE looking at my fat pictures cuz I'd NEVER be back there. Well I'm back there, and now I hate looking at my skinny pictures. I'm trying to diet again, my pouch is non existent. I'm blue. :( Good luck to you.

I'm with you on the weight gain...I'm not sure how I will ever get back on track or even if its possible....I am thinking that pouch test thing but never actually follow through with it....it is very frustrating indeed.

Can you fill your fridge with appropriate snacks for your kids? Cheesesticks, snap peas, yogurt, fruit? And get rid of boxes and bags of crackers and chips? I don't see how anyone can be successful when their pantries and fridges are full of processed junk. Get rid of it, set yourself up for success. No excuses.

It works if you work it; it sorta works if you sorta work it; and it doesn't work if you don't work it.

You have already taken the hardest step by saying enough is enough and now I want to get back on track.  Here are some steps I hope will help you. They helped me...  Also, be sure and join the Back On Track Together group.

Planning/Preparing

Remember when we were preparing for surgery?  How many meetings, classes and such did we attend?  We were told the more prepared we were the better our chances were for success.  And they were right. Go through the house, car and work place and get rid of trigger foods.  Stock up on foods that will keep you on track. I removed every bad carb/sugar temptation and replaced it with lots of protein, veggies, grains and fruits.

Journaling

Get back to journaling.  This will help you identify when you feel like eating, stress factors and any triggers in your life.  Once you identify these factors, this will help you put tools in place to keep you from eating.  It became clear I was not taking time for me anymore. I worked my day job and then spent the rest of my time caring for my husband.  It was easy to reach for fast, prepackaged food.  Since I purged my home I have to eat clean as there are no other options LOL

Use a tool to track you're eating and exercise like Getting Started with Health Tracker.  Once I started to track ever bite and drink it became clear why I had gained.

Goals/Rewards

Make a list of goals for yourself.  Make them realistic and small.  Some of mine were move more, purge all junk from my home, eat more protein.

Food

In general, a long term post-weight loss surgery eating plan includes foods that are high in protein, and low in fat?, calories, and sugar. Important, vitamins and minerals are provided as supplements. (if you had a different surgery adjust this to your food plan).

Water

Water is our Best Friend. I have to say I never went back to pop or any bad drinks, however I was drinking tea like crazy. What is wrong with drinking tea?  I was either using sugar or 3 equals and 3 sweet n lows per 32 ounce glass.  So I was either pushing to be diabetic or get cancer.  I found once I started carrying a bottle of water around 24/7 (yes had one at my bedside) I lost the cravings for the sugar and I KNOW those artificial sweeteners are not good for me. Look I am old and if you add up all the artificial sweeteners I have consumed I am sure I am at the rat in the lab getting cancer threshold.

MOVE!

I can't say enough about how key this was for me. The reason I kept my weight off for almost 10 years was no matter what, I kept moving.  If I could not go to the gym I would walk. I loved Zumba, bootcamp workouts, lifting weights. When I stopped, the weight started coming back.  So for me I am starting slow to avoid injury by walking and using some of the workouts on my Demand TV.  Find something you love to do and it won't feel like a pain in the *** to do daily.

Support

If it's an option "run" don't walk to a support group.

Keep me posted on how you are doing

I haven't had my surgery yet, but if I were you  I'd get my own compact refrigerator and fill it with portion size contains of food just for you. I would avoid cabinets and the family refrigerator. Separate all your personal food from the family's. try to refrain fro going into the kitchen where you would be tempted to cheat.

Go back to your original post op diet and ask your children not to eat there snacks in front of you until you can gain control of your habits.

This is just MHO.
