Has anyone lost regained weight 8 yrs post op?

I'm 8 years post op. I was 426 at my highest, I got down to 300... had another child and gained a good 40-50 pounds back and never lost it, slowly have been regaining and am now back up to 405. I want to know if anyone else has had this problem, this far post op, and come back from it?

I'm thinking my downfall is from a few things. I am currently waiting on results of a recent thyroid check so hopefully if that's a problem I can get help. But mainly that I couldn't stop drinking during meals. And instead of following the high protein diet, I focused more on just eating much smaller amounts of the same food as everyone else. Not really junk foods, but starchy and bread and pasta and stuff we're not supposed to have.

I still don't eat half as much as I used to, my 10 year old daughter out eats me most of the time. I did 10 days of a liquid diet a little while back and after even had a hard time eating one sandwich. So thinking I haven't stretched my stomach out too much, I can probably get back on track easily. But I'm a lot older now going on 31. Having back and nerve problems and weakness again so exercise is going to pretty much be more like therapy type stuff building up muscle. Maybe walking the dog around the block if I can handle it.

I need some friends who maybe have gone through this, and are losing again, or have met their goal. Is this possible? I don't think I need a revision, or would be able to get one even. I want someone who can either email, or use facebook chat, or skype chat... something like that. As a friend to be supportive... just talk about everything. Weight loss, exercise, diet, recipes, life, kids, etc.

Add me or message and leave contact info if you want to chat.

Back on track together - group. Join and start journaling and get back on track.

31 is not old. I am 52 and manage. I do have other health issues so exercise was not really high priority for me lately. But we all can walk and do some stretches.

You know you gain the weight by not following the plan.

I do follow a very low carb diet. Just to maintain.  Protein proteins proteins.. then some veggies, maybe 1-2 serving of fruits (low sugar fruits) a day. I avoid grain and any starchy carbs.  I do eat nuts, and other fats.

But that is me. Eating that way I can maintain with little exercise... a lot of people get back and can los eteh weight by following the plan. You know it will not be easy or fast - like before... but if you want - it can be done.

Or look into revisions... if your insurance allows and you can afford that.

Hi My surgery was in Jan of 2005 and I have just recently started putting  weight back on. I was 333 at my highest I want down to 165 after 14 months.  And maintained it till this past winter I have gained 15 pounds I am in panic mode right now. I know mine is stress eating. Work health issues of myself as well as close family members divorce for me. It is all adding  up and taking its toll So I just need to get back in control and get back to the basics of eating after weight loss surgery I hope it turns around for you Good Luckenlightened...

I had the RNY in 2001-- initially lost 150 pounds from 350.  I was good until 2008 when i had a pre-cancerous growth on my thyroid removed as well as the thyroid. Since then , my body has changed completely-- i developed neuropathy and fibromyalgia which made it near impossible to get any exercise-- walking is a huge chore for me and i have lost my mobility. I am in constant pain all the time.  i had to quit working, now waiting on a pending disability claim for the past 4 years. I am quite depressed nearly everyday.  I have re-gained 100 pounds.  i am disgusted with myself-- i have tried the get back on track program, along with riding a bike last year and water aerobics and did not lose anything.I was on this plan including using an on line food tracking program for over 6 months. There is no cure for what i have, and the treatment includes a med called Lyrica which the side effects is weight gain I feel lost and unable to lose weight-- i feel like i eat the way i should and still can't get the scale to move.  Is there anyone else out there that is struggling--will a revision help this? I am 56 years old and wonder if i am getting too old to have a revision..

IMO you never too old unless you lost your drive and believe you are too old. Go for it.

Hi,

A lot of the issues including the neuropathy and fibromyalgia can be a result of nutritional deficiencies. The way our surgeries change our bodily structures mean that we have to almost overcompensate in the nutrient department even to be able to get the US RDA for most nutrients. Also, nutritional deficiencies play a role in how our metabolism works. My honest suggestion would be to add a green smoothie to your diet each day. If you'd like more info on what to include, I'd be glad to help. I know it helps me with pain when I am getting what i need.

Hope this helps some.

I had my RNY in May 2004 (310 pounds), originally lost all the way down to 167 (total highest weight prior to the Gastric Bypass was 375 in Summer of 2003). Had a few good years then a slow steady weight gain of about 20 pounds here and there, until October 2009 when I was diagnosed with a Neurological condition that was shutting down my endocrine system and I was back up to 270 pounds.  I thought seriously about a RNY revision, but could not find a doctor who would even agree to see me. My surgeon had retired, did not have a good reputation in our area, so no one was willing to follow up on his patients. I struggled and got off 35 pounds, then went through two major personal tragedies, then had a total hysterectomy and gained back 15. January of 2013 I found myself at 257, not sleeping, having 7-9 episodes of hypoglycemia a day during waking hours, horrid restless leg syndrome.... A friend had recently lost 87 pounds and I wanted to know how... Long story short I began her program, with her as my Health Coach, I am now down 60 pounds, I am 17 pounds from the goal my doctor wants me at in order to have a tummy tuck to remove the tons of excess skin. I feel great, I am sleeping, I have tons of energy, I have not had a single hypoglycemic episode since 24 hours into the program. I truly feel this program has given my pouch the rebirth it needed. The program works so well with the RYN's small pouch. It is the right ratio of protein to carbs... I recently had all my labs done and for the first time they are normal!!

  375/169/238/225.2/170 (Starting/lowest/regain wt/current/goal) I WILL SUCCEED!!_
