Lapband Out!

Crosspost: Hiatal Hernia repair & Realize band placed: 4/26/10, Hiatal Hernia Repair 4/12/12, tiny Hernia repair & lap band removal 3/28/13. I only did well with my band for the first 4 months. I loved those 4 months. When pool season ended, my bariatric surgeon gave me an additional fill. Those 7 1/2 ccs got tighter until I could not swallow my saliva. Although the fluid was removed the next day, my journey into esophageal dysfunction began. I had over 11 fills/unfills before switching surgeons because I was not being heard. This lead to last years hiatal hernia repair. Again, my esophagus failed to recover. Almost 3 weeks ago, I caught a stomach virus & my vomiting never stopped. I even ended up in ED with positive blood in my vomitus. A scope revealed a highly irritated esophagus with ulcerations. Surgery revealed a very tight band.

I am not a candidate for gastric sleeve. I am considering bypass. Right now I believe my esophagus is not back to normal. I am angry that I had faith in the first surgeon who only wanted me to be able to eat 2 bites & be full. I now know that meant: bite 3 & you will vomit.

So I will be withdrawing from the list & wish you all the best.

Hello-

I am glad I found this group.  I had mu original surgery in July of 2007- which was ok for 5 years- originally lost over 80 lbs.- then started with the acid reflux problems, bad digestion, throwing up, etc.  Over the first 5 years I think I maybe had 2 fills that were good- others too tight, some I had to go to the xray dept to have because the port had changed position.

Last June underwent a revision surgery.  Well, it's 10 months later and I am now having the same symptoms again.  Underwent a routine endoscopy by a different doctor who told me to get in touch with my surgeon.  Called and said I am having problems and want to come in.  Of course, I am made to feel as if I have done something wrong.....and being told that maybe it's acid reflux due to diet....I said it is a different feeling- like I had last year before the revision where I actually had the food not digest causing me unbearable reflux....

I am at a loss.  Thought of trying to see if I am a candidate for the sleeve, but now thinking by pass may be my only option.  Just would like to feel good again.....

what kind of revision surgery did you have?  VSG? RNY?

I also had a HORRIBLE experience with my lap band... Being stuck & vomiting even when the port was nearly empty! Now I have such scaring around the port, removal will be an issue... I am scheduled to have my band removed & RNY done on the 31st! Although I'm nervous, I think this will be a great start to better health. Good luck on your decision!

I would love to join you but I don't have facebook.  I can help I have pictures Doc took during surgery of defective lapband port.  I even had to pay to have it replaced when they gave me a defective product.

Do you have a google area to post?TIA

I would join your group on Facebook if it were a secret group. I prefer my Facebook community not know that I have had a lapband and that it has failed.... you should consider changing its status or the name to provide the members some anonymity. :) thanks for sharing Anyways.

Ditto on that one. I would also like to join if it was a private group. There are many people that don't know that I had a lap band and I would prefer that they continue to not know.

Thanks :)
