lots of questions...
I have RNY 2 years ago and withing a couple months of having the surgery, if it had not been for the scars, I wouldn't have been able to tell I had had RNY surgery. I stopped posting on the RNY or coming to this site around that time because I felt like a failure reading all the other excited success stories.
I am so afraid that my stomach is back where I started. Money is TIGHT and I can't go back to my surgeon so hopefully you guys can answer a few questions for me....
Where do you start to get back on track...I STAY hungry all the time.
I got so frustrated I threw away all the paperwork from my surgery...could someone re-explain the shakes and the best time to use them. I had Ovarian cancer surgery 3 months ago and while I had kept off the 80 lbs I lost initially I have gained 20 lbs in 3 months...I need to loose 100 lbs or so and in an econimical way...any comments and suggestions are REALLY appreciated!
Good luck
I am right there with you. I have been beating my head against a wall since 2 days after surgery when I ate 3 oz. of food without feeling restriction. By 8 weeks post op I was starving. I have never felt like I had surgery. I never vomited, had dumping or felt sick. I tolerated all foods without limitation. Remember all RNYs are different. All I can suggest (to me also) is to log your food and try to limit your calories. Shakes are great if you have restriction but chances are you will be better off with solid food. I do keep a Pure Protein bar in my purse for low blood sugars. I do the best on a general diet with fruits and veggies. I aim for 3 fruits and 2 veggies a day. Meat or protein 3 times a day. I eat fat free or reduced fat cheese for calcium rather than milk because the lactose (a form of sugar) gives me reactive hypoglycemia. I try to limit to 3 whole grain servings. I also try to eat 200 calories of nuts or healthy fat. Eating out is really tough because of the high number of calories in foods. I do better eating at home. I am going to log my food forever because I really want to get to my goal weight. Good luck to you. Tri
My surgeons basics were
1. 80+ mg of protein daily
2. 100+oz of fluid daily
3. protein first
4. fruits and veggies second
5. no more than a cup of food at a time.
Protien shake suggestions
1. no more than 10 calories for every mg of protien ex. if a shake has 20mg of protein it cant have more than 200 cals
no more than 6 mg of sugar
no more than 10 mg of fat
I love the GNC total lean 25 ready to drink shakes, I use them for a meal or two every day they are 25 mg of protein and 170 cals. and the choclate ones tasste like a shake
