Hello!

I had open gastric bypass in Jan 2009 (starting weight was 277), lost 120-122 lbs and am now probably back in the 220s. I say probably based on me being back in a size 16-18 from my smallest which was a 10-12. I'm afraid to get on the scale to see how much I actually weigh now!

I had a great surgeon and the had no post-op complications but I went back to old eating habits and not exercising. It's just me - no kids, no significant other (at this time) but sometimes I wish I had more external reasons to blame this on instead of my own weaknesses and failure.

I've always been a yo-yo'er and most of my family who live out of town I've been avoiding seeing because of how much I've re-gained and forcing a fake smile while I know they'd be thinking "Gee, even after wls she still gained it back, OMG!"

I know I have to get back on and do everything I had done right after surgery like exercising of course, drink more water, protein shakes, no high fat/high sugar foods, etc.  Taking my vitamins have never been an issue.  I'm just worried that I've stretched my pouch too much!  I haven't been to my surgeons office since 2009 and they've never communicated with me for follow-up visits.

Guess I'm just looking for words of encouragement or to read that those here have had similar experiences as I just feel alone in this.

I know exactly what you are talking about.  I have been struggling for several months with my food addiction.  I had lap band surgery 16 months ago.  It is a mind game. I don't have stomach hunger I have head hunger and it is extremely hard to control.

Hang in there and keep telling yourself you are worth it:)

Is there any support group thru your center? Is there any other around you? It really helps me to have human accountability?  Do you have access to a therapist?  I just started seeing one and she really helps, just talking.

Hi.

I know this response is months later but I am on your journey but I am 7 yrs post op. Started over 400lbs smallest 195lbs, currently 264lbs down from 288 in the last 5 months. Went through the same post op with my surgeon and his staff but my difference is that he is retired. I too fell into the bad habits and stop working out. I have severe gerd(which should have been eliminated by the bypass) and a hiatal hernia. It's been a battle to find another Dr willing to help me. I will have to have another surgery but I am determined to lose this weight again. Find you a support group so that you can have others dealing with your issues to lean on, go see your doctor to ensure your pouch is in place and then restart your journey. Life is filled with ups and downs, you did it before you can do it again. I had to believe in myself and I believe you can do it too. Wishing you great success. angry

I think you should go ahead and step on the scale just to set a goal

Hi...don't know how much anyone comes to this site with Facebook and all now....but I lost 110 lbs total...gained back about 8 and I was 145...I liked it there!!! I was right around there for about 6 years...these last 2 I have gained back 35_40 25 in 2 weeks from lyrica...stopped that...weight didn't come off....then slowly gaining ...changed my MS injections and also had a uterine ablation...other than that my diet.exercise. and activities have been the same...
