I am a failure

I had weight loss surgery in 2009. I weighed 492 on morning I had surgery. The lowest weight I got to was 318. Today I am 340. Yes I am down 150 pounds but I am still 200 pounds away from goal. Anyone else out there in my situation? I had a little regain but never reached goal. I really am a failure at this. I am so sad.

I am in the same boat as you also.  Unfortunately I'm a stress eater and there has been a TON of stress in my life lately.  Daily I try to get back on track but at the same time feel like a failure.  All I can suggest is each day is a new start, so if you didn't start today, try to tomorrow.

I am there with you. I just had to have my band out & am struggling. I back up the other response but have a addition. It never has to wait to make the right decision. Not only everyday do i try real hard but every meal. Every bite. I literally had a cookie to my lips this morning and chose not to eat it. I put it back. But even if i had eaten it i wouldn't have danged the whole day....hopfully. Lol at least i hope i wouldn't have. Anyway my point is it's never too late to make a good decision. Don't pile on the restrictions. Restart slowly. You're not a failure as long as you're trying.

I'm reading your post months later. How are you doing?

Have you had any successes, small or big?

I am pulling for you. All of us who struggle with weight gain / regain and food addiction are in this together.

You are not a failure! There is a good article about how drs'. misrepresent weight loss expectations to patients. It is on this site. It makes a lot of sense, especially Part II. I am including the link above. Hang in there.  I only lost 37 lbs post surgery RNY. I am trying to hang in.  I will post soon about my experience.     All the best to you. You will turn this around.

We are not failures. I believe you have to approach this journey in parts. Each part has a different set of rules. What worked in part one may not in two.it requires a bunch of work to figure out your customized plan to reach your goals. This poster was from lt year so I'm not sure what happened to him or her. If anything losing to the level he she did is amazing. The sudden stop of loss smacks mostly to me of calorie intake. This is one of the biggest issues post op that I think there is.

Almost all of us have been told "it's not about calories, get your protein in first, eat a balanced diet and the weight will take care of it's self". This is true, to a point. What I mean is if I choose to follow the rules and eat correctly this is true. So say my plan has me eating 1000 calories I will probably lose more weight. However if I interpret the same statement a little differently I am eating 1700 calories, I am not going to lose and in fact may gain. These numbers are examples and I believe each person has their own number affected by their body and activity levels.

This site has been extremely helpful to me, but also contains a lot of dangerous information. Great example is protein intake, I read here and other places about very successful wls patients and what the did. Somehow I formed up the idea I would do what they did. For a while I was desperately trying to get in 100+ grams per day post honeymoon phase. That would be about 700 to 900 calories then add in everything else I would eat, it totaled closer to 1700 at the very least. Now in what world is 1700 less than the 1200 calorie maintenance diet I received from my NUT?

I'm not blaming the site or other people, I just saying that every person has a set of factors which affects their weight. Just gloaming on to someone else's can be disastrous. Getting to be too long of a post here, but would like to keep this conversation going because it is important.

Hit me up with a message if you want to participate. Maybe we can open a new thread.
