 Hi,

I am newly sleeved and just found out about this board.  I was wondering if people would post a short list of reasons why you think you are struggling with loss or feel that the process has been mostly a failure.  I seem to be able to eat/drink far more than normal for 13 days out and I am a little nervous, so i am looking to learn as much as I can.  Thank you in advance :)

Just a heads up, I can eat & drink more than normal too.  With the sleeve you have to work at it in order to loose weight. I am still hungry, I just can't eat as much as I did before.  You can eat around your sleeve eat wait and eat again. You will have to learn to control yourself. That isn't always easy.

I am over 5 years post op.  How do you know you can eat or drink more than normal?  Are you cheating on your diet 13 days out?  I personally followed my diet to the letter for 6 months and lost to 10 lbs. of my goal weight.  It was hell I might add, but I did it.  I did the cottage cheese test and found out I could eat 3 cups of food.  Then I found out my surgeon gave me a 2 oz pouch, a large stoma and a very short bypass.  Once they do these surgeries it is difficult and expensive to fix them.  I was in the Restore trial which failed so badly that they stopped the trial early to redesign the tool and the staples.  My advise is to follow your diet and don't worry about it.  Give your surgery a chance.  Just me

I think the best advice is just  follow your plan to the letter and stay away from junk ie cakes, pies, chips etc til you get to goal..

Your too early out to really know if your can eat more than others... at two weeks out i was still on full fluids.. maybe your plan is different though..

The fact you can drink more is a good thing it means you will not end up in the E.R with dehydration..

you wont really feel restriction til you are on mushies softs and normal foods,,,  I dont know what your surgeons plan is but my plan was 2 ounces of food,, i could not eat that much to begin with it was like half of an egg made into a omlet..

If you still find that your not feeling restriction whem your cleared to all foods, then time to speak to your surgeon and find out why.. as for hunger remember that stomach acid mimics hunger so you may need a stronger PPI or a different one or maybe even one twice a day, so always bring these things to the attention of your surgeon if you have them..

Congrats on your new sleeve.  I am 10 months out and I have not lost 1 pound in almost three months.  I NEVER "cheated" with soda, sweets, chips, etc.  I have NO restriction.  I think I am not the norm and you should be fine if you stay away from sweets.
