I've had my band for 2 years and while I initially lost 40lbs, I have since gained back 10 of it. At first I had the time to exercise and plan meals, but my lifestyle changed drastically and now Im lucky if I can find a minute to cook dinner for my kids. Im considering finding out about removing the band and seeing if they can do an RNY. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks for any info anyone has!!

I have had my band for 3 yrs and I too have had the same issue. I am revising to RNY on Nov 2. Good luck to you! You may want to look at the revision board.

I feel you. I had my band in Dec. 2010 and at first lost 30lbs, but have gained back 9lbs. I have had no weight loss sence April 2011 and am so discouraged. Pre-op i had lost 25lbs and was losing sometimes up to 5lbs a week, but it seems that scence surgury it has slown down and my hunger is still high along with being able to eat large amounts of food with out restiction until i have eatten as much as i used to and have never had any problems. The only time my tummy bothers me is when i dont eat i get these terrible hunger pains. I would REALLY like to do a bypass and wish that i would have when i had the chance but felt like it was too much but after being stuck on this platue for so long i have been completely discouraged and want to look in to the bypass as well, however i don't know if my surgon nor my isurace will go for it now that i lost a little bit of weight it puts me just below the required BMI, as before i was just above:( I am unsure of my options at this point. Good luck to you, hope it all works out :)

OMG I'm so happy there are other people out their that have gone through the same problem with the band. I've had my band for two years also it work for the first year even though I had to have a couple a correctional surgeries do to complications. It seemed right after the first year I started to to regain the weight right back almost as quick as I lost it. Now I'm having the band removed and going forward with the RNY on Nov.30,2011. the one thing my surgeon did advise to me to is to remove the band before you have the RNY procedure so that your stomach has time to heal from what every damage the band might have cause such as brushing, infections, things of that nature.

I had a band for almost 10 years.  I am now at the stage of life where I'm going through the change, and have hypothyroidism.  The band was so tight it was allowing me to only eat crunchy starch things and no protein.  I had to "re-invent the wheel" (jump through all the insurance hoops all over again).  but I was switched to RNY on 11/25/11.  so far between the pre-surgery diet and the surgery I have lost over 20 lbs of re-found weight.  I had my surgery done in one step, band removal and RNY.  doesn't seem to have caused any harm, but do whatever your surgeon says, b.c. the end result will be the same.  I'm trying hard to commit to eating mostly protein and not ever starting to pick up crispy snacks again.  It's a hard habit to break though!
