I had a VSG 3 years ago and have started gaining weight.  40 pounds to be exact.  Any suggestions as to how to get back on track?  What do you think about the 5 day pouch test for VSG patients?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think you should get back to the basics ASAP. The pouch test helped me when the carbs got away from me and it's a good start. However, it's not enough. The sleeve doesn't stretch too much so you should still be OK. I suggest an Atkins-type lifestyle from now on.

Thank you for your quick reply.  I'm just so discouraged and feel defeated.  My husband eats so many carbs and suragr treats all the time and keeps encouraging me to do the same.  I think he really wants me overweight but I hate myself being heavy.  I think I'll start the 5 day test by the end of the week.  Thanks for your help.

I think some couples counseling might really help you guys, it may make him more sensitive to your issues and  more apt to be your partner in getting healthy, which wll benefit you both.

What is this 5 day test? I have a husband who wants sugary and high carb desserts after every dinner. I asked him if his mother served desserts after every dinner, he said no. But he's always searching the cabinets (in case I've hidden it somewhere). I haven't got my sleeve yet but I fear that this old habit will still continue after the VSG. I just need to prepare myself for a back up plan.

I really believe carbs cause regain.  When I start eating carbs, I want more.  It is a vicious cycle.  I have accepted that and I have to keep my carbs under 70.  For me that is the only way to beat the fat.  I wish you the best!!!

I'm 5 years out today and I too have a gain....lost 150 lbs and about 30 lbs are back.  I've been trying to stay under 1200 calories with carbs between 50-100.  It's difficult because 'good' carbs are still carbs and I'm a carb-****no two ways about it! I use the nutrition journal at sparkpeople.com.

You only need the pouch test if you feel the problem is you are overeating.  I still have great restriction.  I made lentil soup yesterday and could only get down 3/4 cup; 3-4 oz of chichen and a bit of veggies and I'm done; a peach fills me up...I think that's really cool at 5 yrs out.
