possible switch to DS from RNY
Hello, I'm new to this group. My name is Sheila. In 2006 I had the RNY in
Toronto by Dr D Starr. I was unsuccessful with this. I started at 335 lbs, and
managed to get to 220 lbs which was still 70lbs away from goal in the first
year. Shortly after the weight started to return. I am currently back up to 265
and still gaining. I feel like such a failure. My health is starting to
deteriorate back to where I was when I started. I am back on my high blood
pressure and Diabetes meds as well as I am now suffering from 2 degenerative
disks in my back and Arthritis in both hips and my right shoulder. I suffer with
great depression daily and currently take 3 pills a day for this. In total I am
back to 9 pills a day nearing the 13 a day before surgery. I have decided a
revision to the DS may be necessary to reach a healthy weight. I am speaking
with a Dr in Montreal to learn more info. He tells me getting this covered by
OHIP is difficult. Has anyone here ever managed to have this covered by OHIP?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly welcomed.
Thank you,
Sheila

Go to dsfacts.com to learn about the DS. I was scheduled to have the RNY in June of this year. I cancelled my surgery due to a gut feeling I had that it was wrong for me. Actually, one of the biggest factors for giving me that gut feeling was living on the RNY boards and hearing how many problems everyone was having.
I am now working on insurance approval for the DS and feel very peaceful and comforted with my decision.
I don't know about your insurance/benefits, but there are several Canadians on the DS forum. Come on there and ask your question, they'll be happy to guide and direct you.
