NEVER GOT TO GOAL
I will be post op 2 years on the 22nd of this month.. started out at 406 and went down to 278.. Yesterday i weighed myself..**292**. I am so disgusted with myself.. But i know that I am playing around with food and am not get dumping like i did in the beginning when i ate wrong foods. i am drinking soda, (not alot, maybe once every 2 weeks) but am eating crunchy chips and sun chips.. I am eating rice , peanut butter and diet jelly sandwiches on small pieces of bread, but go back and have 2 or 3.. the worst of it all is that i don't have mental control.. i don't know what plan to follow and the doctors don't seem to care.. can anyone help?
I am sorry you feel that way. But - if you do not care - why anyone else should?
The surgury is only a toll. You know your eating is out of control - yet you contunue to do that.
You need help - conseling, psycological - to find out why do you sabotage yourself. Please get help.

"Failure is not falling down, It is not getting up once you fell... So pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again...."
Counseling is an excellent suggestion. 90% of our success in weight loss has to do with coping with head hunger.
You should be weighing yourself on a weekly basis. That way, if your weight starts to creep up, you can rein it in again just by tweaking your diet a little. It's very difficult to gain 14 pounds in one week--at most, it's usually 2 or 3.
Keep a diet journal EVERY day for EVERY bite of food that goes in your mouth. This will help you to see your intake and be REALLY honest with yourself about it. You can eat about 2900 calories per day at your current weight and not gain anything--but if you want to lose that weight, you're going to have to cut those calories and FORCE your body to use up the stored energy you're carrying around--that's all fat is, just stored energy that your body hasn't used yet.
The weight loss surgery IS a tool. It is a way to endure controlled, medically-supervised starvation with a minimum of physical hunger. But as compulsive overeaters, our biggest problem is HEAD HUNGER. So my advice is to go to a group, get counseling, go to your doctor to get a referral--whatever it takes to find a place where you can talk about your compulsions and find out ways to deal with them.
Good luck and remember--YOU CAN DO IT!!

I am sorry that you feel that my comment was harsh. maybe it was - but maybe that can wake you up? You eating food that you know is contributing to regain. yet - you do that. The question that I asked you - is why do you do that to yourself? why do you sabotage yourself?
My suggestion for you is to get help. To find oout why do you do that.
I have problem with my eating and with my weight. Now - I am at goal and maintain. But i got a lot of counceling along the way. I still get that. becasue the fixed out stomach - not our heads. So unless you can get the head into it - and find out why do you do what you do - It may be hard for you to get on a good food program.
Why do I suggested that you do not care about yourself? because if you really do - you would not eat and drink things that are bad for you. if you have a child and see them eat food that you know will hurt them in a long run- would you want to stop them? why? because you care about the child. So why don't you care about you enough to ask yourself when you try to get the soda or not-so good snacks: do I care enough about me to stop the junk food? and not tomorrow, today. You deserve to be happy, to be healthy and to stop putting junk into your body.
Sorry if you feel that is harsh. It comes from place where i really care enough about you to spend my time responding to your post. You can be angry with me - but print that out and read it - and ask yourself - do you care enough about you and your body to stop eatin the food that is not good for you. Or are "the wants" for soda or chips stronger than your love for you?

I do not agree that her comment is insensitive... This is the reality of everything and it is that the surgery is only a tool... I am now at about 153 and unfortunately my weight loss is apart of my EVERYTHING life because I AM NOT going to gain it back... Try to make that a priority and if you are going back and going back for more you may need help to control the mental part of why you are eating... I wish you all the luck.

First, consider going back to basics. I'll always have to be careful with my VSG and I knew that going in. Maybe the 5 day pouch test will work for you. If I find myself getting careless, I cut out ALL carbs. The first day is horrible - but within a couple of days things even out. I do that whenever I find my calories slipping upwards or I start with the carb cravings - because as a friend of mine says "eating carbs begets eating carbs".
Secondly, you've lost over 100 pounds. You must feel SO much better. I can tell you the different in how I felt between 292 and 249 which is where I am now is amazing. I realized this morning when I walk the dog, I walk the dog FAST!
Thirdly, what was your goal? You are considered successful if you lose 40% of your excess weight.
You've made amazing progress. You just need to regroup, refocus, and figure out what issues need to be addressed to get back on track. Are your vitamin levels ok? Any anemia? Insulin levels and thyroid levels all good? Are you dealing with any depression issues? Are you on any meds that might be contributing to this?
And please don't discount counseling - I see a therapist twice a month to deal with things like how to handle the feeling that my changing body is bringing, and how to combat emotional eating, and frankly just to talk about issues with the weight loss. It is well worth the $20 co-payment to have that extra support.
Also find a support group locally and GO REGULARLY! Find an accountability buddy - I'll volunteer if you want me to.
You have done well losing that first 120 or so pounds. Goodness, You should be proud!
Now you need to figure out what you need to do to finish the job.
And then tackle the issues, one issue at a time, one day at a time, and one pound at a time.
You have a tool that will help you. DOn't fight it - use it!
you CAN do this! I know you care or you wouldn't have posted!

And ditch the sodas, diet or not, today. Walk away from the first one this morning. DO it one soda at a time. That stuff is evil.
Before my surgery while on the pre-op diet, I actually did a little test with my blood sugars while on a strict low-carb diet. Crystal light didn't affect my blood sugar. But a single diet coke spiked my blood sugar by 30 points and triggered cravings. I don't know how or why but it was consistent.
I was a complete Diet Coke addict for years. I quit the day before my surgery. No way is another one of those things going into my body. It really messes with my body chemistry.
Get them out of the house today! It WILL make a difference!
