LapBand Valentines Day 2008 not doing well
I had my surgery Valentines Day 2008, 14cc large band. Had fills up to 8cc, then could not find that sweet spot. I was either wide open with no restriction or throwing up even water. I had lost at my most 98lbs, now all gained back. My doc took out all fluid and we are working back up at only .50cc per fill. Since day one, I have always been hungry, never felt full until I threw up. NOt quite sure what to do ......
sounds like my experience. I got the band 2/25/08 and the first year went great. lost 71 pounds. After that it was either too tight or too lose. Never in between. I was back and forth to the doctor getting fills and unfills. In June I had Emergency surgery to have the band removed and they said my stomach had come up through the band. I was in the hospital for 6 days.
Can you believe I miss my band. I have gained 20 pounds and would give anything to have it back.

I hear you on the band issues. I can't wait to get mine out. I've had one unfill becasue I was throwing up a lot. They think I'm not chewing. I don't think I can chew more! The only good thing that came from the band is learning the difference between hunger, thirst and boredom! I'm going through insurance approval for revision to RNY right now. A lot of my issues have to with the fact that I am diabetic, but I have not been happy overall with the band either.

Well, I had my Lapband surgery with Dr. Rodriguez on February 26, 2010. I had lost 50#. But everything has come to a hault. I was afraid to get my first fill, but finally have scheduled it next week. From everything I am reading on here, sounds like the fills are not successful. Should I hold off on the fill? Even though I want to lose another 50#?
This does not sound like failure. The band will give you 1-2 lbs. average weight loss weekly and since your surgery from my math you are on track for the past six months. The band is the slowest weight loss method from my understanding of all of the WLS and you need fills to maintain your band for the most part. Fills are successful and maybe you might want to get more information from your doctor about what to expect from the fill and questions about restriction in your lap band journey. You may want to post on the lap band board for your questions about the band and what to expect from it. Right now you are in what is called "Bandster's Hell" and that is when you may be more hungry due to limited or no restriction and may not be losing weight. A fill does not mean automatic weight loss anymore than any other WSL after six months will. All surgery has stalls and the fill may help you. Good luck.
