Weight Gain only one year out

Hey fellow helpers, Its time to tell my story so I can get some help.  Hopefully someone can relate.  I have gain like 30 lbs back since my WLS (gastric RNY) in March of 2009.  I feel like a failure and now before the hopelessness sets in, I am reaching out for help.  I have not been for my yearly post due to shame, embrassement, and guilt.  I also have not been to my Dr. office for the same reasons.  I went to my GYN and she informed me my cholestrol was 264 so now I am at a total surrender.  Made my appointment for the surgeon and also going Monday for my full post opt blood work.  A friend of my had her surgery on Tuesday and she is on the losers bench.  All comments are welcome at this point need some identification or just some ideas to get back on track.  Thanks for listening

Wow! I can soooo relate. I noticed that not too many post on this forum....so it seems like a lot of people aren't failing. But I know we are not the only ones having trouble. I bet some just gain weight and never come back to this site.

You are not a failure until you just give up. DONT GIVE UP! Some people have different outcomes...but you can't beat yourself up. Use what you have and do what you can. You took the first step by going to check in with your surgeon. You are to be applauded for that. Major step!

This doesn't have to be a permanent situation. You don't have to gain all your weight back. I NEVER imagined I would be struggling with weight loss the way I am now. The things i did that would guarantee me a loss before surgery....does NOTHING now. It seems so unfair when I see other people successful with their weight loss...but then I think...the people that died doing this can say the same about us!

So just pick yourself up...forgive yourself....don't compare yourself to others....and just realize our journey may be a little more difficult than others....but we will succeed.

Hang in there,
Leigh

Hi Leigh- I have been reading posts for 4 years and I have seen tons of people have RNYs and fail.  20 % of RNY surgeries fail.  Yes they do leave the sight because the people that succeed beat them up until they decide to not post anymore.  Some people CAN'T eat too much.  Some people dump from just a little too much fat or sugar.  They tend to be the first ones to point out the great self control they have gained since their surgery because they now can put food in proper perspective while those of us that have no limits just are of lesser character and so we fail.  I wonder sometimes what they are thinking...do they forget why they had the surgery?

Keep in mind that you really are doing well and eventually it will come off.  It may take some of us longer for various reasons.  In the mean time we are learning really good healthy habits.  You are right... we will succeed.  Those of us that struggle need to support each other to keep motivated.  take care, Daisy

Hi Carolyn-Hopefully your surgeon will help you.  I read about him and he has lots of accolades, experience and training.  I really believe that most of us failures have some sort of mechanical failure first.  Then the reality of failing hits us and the psychological aspect of failing gets to us.  I hope that your surgeon quickly diagnoses your mechanical failure and then offers a solution to help you.  Have faith in him because he didn't become one of NJ top doctors by sending patients on the way 2 days after surgery!  I wish you good luck and keep us posted.  Daisy

The fact that you are not in denial about what is going on and are willing to get back into what you know worked to me is half of the battle. As long as you are ready to get back in the WLS pool and swim is the other.  You can do this, just start.

Thanks lady.  Yes swiming upstream is what I must do.  Went today for my blood work, made my appointment with my surgeon and looking for a closer support group.
