Gaining weight back
So, today I began the 5 Day Pouch Test...so far doing fine, have had 2 Atkins protein shakes, 1 cup of cream of mushroom soup, and three 20-oz bottles of water...
I had never heard of the 5DPT until I saw it on this website...thank you for the information...now I just need some support and accountability to ensure I follow through with the 5DPT plan and then continue to utilize the eating habits I know I need to follow...
NO MORE GRAZING/CARB LOADING (that is my constant mantra and prayer)!

I learned about the 5DPT on this site, in someone's posting on another topic. It is really easy to follow and it has helped me tremendously to get back on track. Day #2 was pretty tough as I kept getting dizzy, but that's because I had been consuming so many carbs (that I should not have been having) before starting the plan. Google 5-Day Pouch Test and it will take you to the site. Read what she has to say. I don't see why it would not work for you, but you can ask her questions that you may not find answers to on her site.
She gives tons of info, encouragement, and recipes for free, but she also has stuff you can buy. I just pulled the stuff off the site that I needed and went to the forum on the site and got more recipes from others!

Hi,
I had an RNY in 2002, lost 175lbs. About 2 years into the weight loss I slowly started regaining, it was so frustrating and almost uncontrollable, not like I was sitting around eating bon bons all day long.
Long story short I gained all my weight back, every pound. Dissolutioned and miserable I had to do something because I didn't want to live in that prison of a body again.
I had an RNY to DS Revision in February and am down 100lbs and feel fantastic. In 2002 the DS wasn't as well known and the thought scared me, seemed so radical and drastic. I should have saved myself the trouble of the revision and done it to begin with. Statistics show that there's over a 30% of weight regain with the RNY for BMI's of 50 and over.
Check out www.dsfacts.com, there's some good comparative info on there you might find useful.
Best of luck, I know how you're feeling.

I have actually been thinking of getting a revision from RNY to DS. I did hear about it before my RNY but was concerned cause as you said its a drastic procedure. But looking into it more now I realize and kick myself for not doing the DS. Not only because of the wl success and actually being able to keep off the weight but because of the comorbidity success also with diabetes and hbp. Even after having RNY I still have those co morbities. So now I am contemplating having a revision to a DS. It was a fairly easy process with the RNY with my insurance the first time so I don't know if they'll make a stink about the revision to a DS. I'm only about 18 mths out but I still have my comorbities and considered obese for my height. Did you have any issues with your insurance company? I know we don't have the same plan or company but would like to know how and what you had to go through. Just to see if maybe its worth the headaches for me. I would appreciate any information you could give me on your experience with the DS/ and insurance.
Thanks, Liz
Thanks, Liz

I am struggling with somethign similar. I am almost 3 years post-op and lost 110 lbs in the first 1.5 years. I was about 25 lbs from my surgeon's goal range and I was looking and feeling great. I was eating pretty healthy and within the high-protein guidelines, and I didn't feel hungry after meals. Last fall I had breast reduction and lift surgery which resulted in some complications and kept me laid up for a while. Over the next few months I noticed myself feeling anxious, and therefore craving carbs, and eating and grazing on lots of carbs. I was also drinking which eating, which is a no no. Anyway, now it's June and I am up 25 lbs and freaking out a bit. I have boosted my exercise a bit but I know the problem is the eating disorder, not the surgery...I just keep grazing to manage the anxiety that has re-emerged a bit. It's not dibilitating anxiety, just a feeling of tenseness due to life stressors, but it sure ahs me in the food...
I am really afraid of my loved ones thinking I have "failed" my surgery, so I'm working really hard to use other tools to manage the anxiety....and to get more willing to eat correctly, wait to drink, etc.
Thanks for sharing and for opening the door for me to share. --Shauna

Hi I am right there with you. I had my surgery 12/06 and was at 289 and got to 165. in a year then all of 2008 I was sick and almost died. found problem in dec of 08 and had to have a complete hystorectomey. jan of 09 i weighed 140 and looked like death. I am now 200 and am very depressed. I have read where people gain 30 to 50lbs and loose some of it. I hate the way I look and feel. I am so dissaponited in my self. I know I have been given a tool and I need to use it. I am thinking about the 5day pouch test to get me back on track. . My husband finally said something the other day about my weight.
when I ws so sick I could'nt get in and out of my bed so I would take a snack to bed with me at night. I have noticed I get up and eat. I have cut this out this past week. I need to get back on my water. used to be so faithful at it.
I know how you feel I know we are not failers but can't help but feel that way.
