I had my stomach stapling done in 1981 and needless to say, I lost 15 lbs in the hospital and that was it.  I was blaming myself for a long time but I've realized now that I had no post support. I had no idea what to eat or drink. Almost immediately i ate the same as I did before.
Does anyone know if Ohip will pay to have WLS done again?  Also...I was reading up on some sites about weight loss surgery, One of the sites said that a person had to be over ? bmi but under 50 bmi.  What if i'm over 50 bmi? would the surgery not be possible? Do i just give up b4 I even start? I'm lost.
I have been referred to Toronto Western Hospital. They have sent paper work to be filled out to my family doctor. My cardioligist is the doctor *****ferred me.
Thanks so much for reading my post.

Perhaps you could have a sleeve.  I had a BMI of 57.5 15 months ago, got the sleeve and now BMI of 27.8.  Its been great for me.  I dont know anything about canada or anything though.  But its something to think about and maybe it would work as a revision.

Your story is similar to mine.  I had my stomach stapled in 1983.  I lost 150 lbs in 10 months due to inability to eat ANYTHING.  I was literally on liquids for all that time.  I even got dehydrated at one point and had to be re-hospitalized.  There was NO follow-up care.  No nutritional information.  I got literally no protein in all that time and lost most of my hair and muscle strength.  I had to take nasty liquid vitamins that were so horrible I usually didn't take them.  Also, I gained all the weight back, plus some more.

Dr. Aceves did my revision 6 days ago.  He went in hoping to do a VSG.  Because of the excessive scar tissue from the previous surgery, he had to do the RNY.  I'll learn to live with it and I'll lose the rest of my excess weight.  It's my last hope!  I was self pay as my insurance company wouldn't even consider a WLS revision.

Don't give up.  Try hard to get your insurance company to cover you.

Stomach stapling has been totally discredited, and it is no longer being done in most areas (only very unethical physicians would even consider doing it).

Yes, you can have weight loss surgery under Ontario's plan.  Personally, I would strongly recommend that you look into the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG), which removes approximately 80% of your stomach, but does NOT reroute any intestines (with the attendant problems that rerouting causes long term).

I can tout my own success, ahving lost well over 50% of the totla me, and reaching a completely normal weight level at the age of 65/66.

Come on over to the VSG forum, and check out the many success stories.

And having a BMI over 50 puts you into the super obese category, which makes you a higher priority for surgery.
