To band over my RNY or not to band....

Hi all- so I have postponed my lapband over bypass procedure for a few weeks... and may go in to see my RNY surgeon who performed my wls back in 2005. I've gained back 40 lbs... am I being unreasonable in thinking that I need to have yet another surgery to "fix" this? Should I save my money and not head to Mexico for what most see as a quick fix?

Sorry for my whining...but I honestly have no idea if I should pursue this or not...

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Well, your options are not great in number.

Band after bypass is the safest but it's the slowest weight loss.

ERNY is kinda risky and not a long term solution.

Taking down your bypass and doing DS is the most risk but the best weight loss.

ROSE and Stomaphyx are a total waste of money.

So it really depends on how much risk you are willing to take.

And no surgery is a quick fix. ;o)

Thank you for your reply  I appreciate it. Yesterday afternoon, I met with a personal trainer at my gym (I pay dues, but don't actually go, so I guess calling it my gym is odd lol) for the first time in a year....so I am hoping that perhaps getting some exercise and really paying attention to what I eat versus just eating will at least give me a better perspective.

Of course the lap band coordinator for the surgeon's office in Mexico is trying to convince me to go forward with the procedure - but if I am going to have another surgery, why go with a band when a DS is best (based on my research and member emails to me).

So many things to think about....*sigh*....

What doctor are you working with in Mexico?  Don't let some silly coordinator push you into a bloody thing.  This is a huge decision and a costly one at that.  You have to live with the surgery for the rest of your life, not the coordinator.

DS is the best option but also the one with most risk.  After the initial risk of surgery it is probably the surgery that will give you the best quality of life.

Ungson is the Mexican choice for DS.

Glad to see you're not considering the band over a failed RNY.  I think it would be a huge mistake, I read about so many problems with the band.  If you're going to have a 2nd procedure, get the best and I think the DS is.   You may want to consider seeing a surgeon who does RNY to DS Revisions - I don't think seeing a surgeon who performs RNY's will be very helpful when considering revision surgery.

You're right, there is so much to think about, hope you'll feel free to come over to the DS board and ask questions.  Best of luck to you through your journey, there's so much to consider.
