I am new here. I had my surgery 4 weeks ago today. I have lost 25 pounds the first 2 weeks and now I havent really lost anything. I am doing this all wrong. I was hungry from the start. I eat and then throw it out. I cant seem to make my mind think a teaspoon of food will make me satisfied. I just eat till i finish and then run to the bathroom. This is so awful. I just went to burger king and got a fish sandwich. I ate it so fast (as i usually do and I know I have to slow but I can't seem to) wow this is so psychological more then physical. Any way barely made it home to run to the bathroom. I am a grown woman and have been on every diet known to man and now I am screwing this up so bad. Should I go to groups, counceling? Has this happened to anyone? Please tell me what you did to fix this. Im so afraid ill streach out this stomach and then all this for nothing. Thanks

I see you're in Dartmouth.  I assuem you went through Wareham Surgical?  You should defintly go to the support groups!  Before that I would actually go see one of the Counselors ASAP before you really harm yourself by messing up your insicions.  It takes a long time for those to really heal.  That why they have us do the psych eval - partly so that you understand the resources.  Or call the Office and make an appointment.  I also just called a couple times and asked questions of the RNs in the Office.  Michelle was always super helpful!  But I woudl talk to someone ASAP.  More than just stretching your stomach, you don't want to make yourself super sick due to leaking, etc.

I had my surgery in Boston. Yes, I really do want to get into a support group ASAP. I had a few surgeries in the past and had complications in all of them. This is the first one with no complications and I sure don't want to be the cause to ruin this. I can't figure this out. I don't know why I can't control my portions. Trust me I'm  not crazy and passed the psyc. eval no problem. I just didn't understand how it was going to be. If you know any support groups in this area please let me know. The only ones I know are in Boston and I have a Home care business and also have 3 mentally disabled clients who live with me so it's hard to get away for too long. Thanks

Hey...
I am also a patient of dr. hess...I haven't had my surgery yet but I had to do 2 years of counciling for my binge eating disorder before they even concidered me for surgery.  Kelly is the social worker there and she is absolutely amazing...you should definately touch base with her as well as Wendy...they are super supportive there....especially those 2....also they have the support groups which are helpful....
I am preop for may 11, my spouce is going tuesday!!!  Fingers crossed...I worry about my binge eating....but I am way better than I used to be....PLease call Kelly Fournier...she is extremely smart and supportive.

First of all, congratulations on your 25 pound loss!  I had Lap RNY 16 days ago and am down just 10 pounds.  My clinic told me to not has look at the scale for a while.  Each body is different and will adjust to the new pouch in its own way.

My first 10 days were really hard; it's just been in the past few days that I have been feeling well and getting motivated.  It helps me to research all the interesting, safe foods that we can eat at 6-8 weeks.  I have also posted specific questions here and got good supprotive answers back.  Reach out to all those ypu can.  If your clinic is supportive, let them know you are struggling.  They want you to be successful, I am sure.  I called my clinic twice the first week and got good help.  Sometimes, there is help you don't know is there for you.

Please, try to remember that these first two months are going to be hard, but so worth the effort.  We came this far and sure what to benefit from the best this surgery can give us.

Try to get back on track.  You can do this!!

Feel free to email me directly.  :)

RNY on 04/04/12
I've done extensive research on WLS in hopes of getting my own RNY this year.  For starters I would most definitlely do support groups or therapy of some sort.  You won't be able to successfully change your mind if you don't.  Also, perhaps what you're choosing to eat could be effecting you, I don't think there is anything in the new way of eating that would ever include a trip to BK; and most definitely not so soon after your surgery.

Best of luck to you....
Kelly
