4 Weeks out and feel like a failure
I'm so sad about this I'm on the verge of tears several times throughout the day. I lost 10 lbs my first week post-op and then just one more pound this week. 11 POUNDS IN 4 Weeks?!?!? I've been keeping calories to 600-800 a day; carbs under 40; fat under 40; and protein at 60-80g. I knew I wasn't going to be one losing 20-30lbs the first month, but I thought at least 15lbs. I fear that I'm not going to lose any more weight or as little as 3lbs a month or something like that, that it will be painfully slow going.

Hi,
I understand your frustration. The thing is, everyone loses at a different rate. Some are slow losers, some are fast. Each one of us really doesn't know how our bodies will react. The fact you are losing is great! That is the purpose of the surgery. I would suggest you try to relax and let your body lose at its own pace. Find some fun things to do that you enjoy. Also, well, 600-800 calories a day is a bit low. Your body may be reacting to the lack of nutrition. It may think it needs to be in starvation mode and hold on to as much body fat as possible. We have that build into us. It might be a good idea to get some nutrition counceling.
You are doing good! Take some slow deep breaths, put sign on your scale, if you can, saying "you don't rule me" lol I used my clothes as a guide to my success. As the sizes went down, I rejoiced in that. I rarely got on the scale.
Hang in there. Get into a good support group. Find some activities you enjoy and relax!

Your not a failure ! most likely your in starvation mode. your body is trying to hold onto the weight. just do what the Dr tells you.. it will drop off . Put the scale away and find an activity you enjoy ... Other than eating.

I am a compulsive weigher. I weigh every morning after my shower. I have all my life. The times I didn't weight was because I knew I was eating wrong and I was gaining wt. So, I cannot give up on the scale, But I do not let it rule me. The best part about the surgery is that if you eat your protein, Drink protein and drink water you will lose the wt.
Don't compare yourself to others. There are people on here who are crazy about exercise and low calorie eating. They are in a rush to lose the weight. You can not go by the day to day or even the week to week comparisons. I have periods where I don't lose anything for three weeks and then I will lose 6 pounds in a week. I don't understand it, but I have come to understand that I take a monthly average and it is about 10 pounds a month. It slowed down for Christmas and I was off track with the sugar thing.
So, relax you are not going to be the one who fails. You just have to follow the rules and marvel at how the surgery works.

Glo,
The more you stress over this the less likely you are to lose! It is proven that stress SLOWS weightloss. You were a "light weight" going into the procedure and you may not lose as fast. Us "sleevers" don't tend to lose as fast as the RNYers so you can't compare yourself to them.
Are you exercising? It makes a world of difference when you exercise. Don't worry, you will get over this hurdle and those pounds will start dropping. I was worried in the beginning too ans someone told me that the "real" loss doesn't start till about 6 weeks!
Take care and PM me if you need any extra support!
