New Year's Reform Group - LET'S WORK ON SOLUTIONS
Hi All,
I thought I'd start another thread since there was such a response to my New Year's/4 years post op post. Since there were so many responses I thought we could start another thread focusing on solutions and/or creating a starting point to get back on track.
Here are a few things I'm thinking of trying and/or updating (anyone has any suggestions or good websites for info I'd love to see them)
1. Biggest and hardest thing I need to do is see the surg who I haven't gone to in 3 yrs. He was mad at a 12lb gain and I dread seeing him with a 90lb gain. Then again, I think it's important to make sure everything with the surg is still okay and in place.
2. I want to do the 5 day pouch test starting on Monday. Go back to the basics of protein shakes and then build from there. I find if I don't eat for a bit, and do protein shakes, that when I return to norma food I can only eat a little. I also need to stop drinking while eating.
3. I want to get my blood drawn and see where I'm at...I used to chart it and everything but haven't been compliant in the last few years. Anyone have a good list of what blood test we need? It's been a while since I downloaded one and I wonder if there's anything new. Someone mentioned a metabolism test and I'd never heard of that but will ask doc for it.
4. I REALLY need to get on track with my vitamins too. Since the surg. I've developed a thyroid problem and low vit D severe enough for prescription meds. I used to take a boat load of vits but haven't been compliant. Anyone know of a good brand that has everything or of a good comprehensive list of vits we need?
5. Does anyone know what the type of doc to go to get you nutrient levels all checked out. I've already gone to an endo but he said that only cover certain things....I'm not sure if a nutritionist is what I'm looking for either...I know I've heard of this type of doc but can't remember the name/type - maybe it's holistic.
Any suggestions would be great! I think not only do I need to start but getting a comprehensive baseline on my health is also key. I'll probably call the local bariatric centers in my area - there are more since I had the surg and hopefully they'll have more after care support. Anyone know of a good one in the NYC/LI area?
Hope everyone has a great day!

What happened? With the great response from the original post I thought I'd have some company :(
So far I've started checking into the bariatric centers in my area and checking to see if there are any recommendations online too. Think I'll make a list of phone numbers and start checking them out regarding aftercare for patients a few years out.
I'm also hunting down all my old and new lab work. I'll put the new stuff in the chart and get scripts for anything I'm missing. I intend to first see my primary and then make an appt with the surg who did the bypass. I will make the appt next week - I'm writing that here as my committment because Lord knows I dread that meeting.
So, how about everyone else? Anyone do anything to get back on track today????
I swear this time when I lose the weight I'm getting my bellybutton pierced so I don't lose it again!

How did you did you do with the 5 dpt? I went on a cruise in Jan and was up 14 pounds. I did the five day+ and got it off but, slowly went back up 7 pounds. I have just come back from another 2-week cruise vacation. This time I was up 16 pounds. I know this is probably bad but, I picked up some fen in Mexico. I started it yesterday.
I did the 5 dpt two weeks ago and was totally surprised that it worked. I am no longer craving sweets and am slowly loosing weight. I feel better, but still need to lose at least that 50 pounds to make my ortho doc happy. I feel better now that I am in control and taking responsibility for my own food choices again. Baby steps. I am soooooo sorry about the trouble you had. How are you feeling now?
