I had Gastric Bypass in Dec 06 and had a ton of complications..leaked 5 days out and had to have another surgery, the got abcess (sp) on my spleen and was back in for another week and home with IV antibotics and then had to have fluid drain from around my lungs..
My weight at my first visit was 358 and my surgery weight was 338. I got down to 240 and my mom was diagnoised with cancer and passed away 3 months later, then my dad passed away 10 months later and then 7 months later my husband was laid off and I gained back 40 of what I lost as I am a STRESS eater!! I am at a LOSS on how to get back on track. I have not been back to my Dr. since I think 1 or 2 year check up..not really sure when AND I really do not want to as
1. I am EMBARRESSED and 2. I just do not want to...
I am so MAD at myself as I really never though I would be "one of those" who gain it all back but that is where I am headed. I TRY to get back on track but I am not even sure how to do it anymore..I am hungry all the time BUT I do not my pouch is still somewhat working as I can not eat LARGE amounts of food ( but I can eat). I know I am eating the wrong things but that was my problem before and it is again...
Has anyone else had any luck getting back on track and losing again 3 plus years out.
Thanks

Diana

First off, I am sorry for the loss of your parents and the many stresses in your life.  But I strongly recommend you go back to your doctor.  Believe me he/she has seen it before (and with less life issues I bet) and can make sure everything is okay.  I don't know what kind of program your surgeon has, but mine has a great support program in place.  So if you can take advantage of that, including support groups, I think you will find most are very understanding and accepting.  And when necessary, can provide that good kick in the rump to get us going.

Also, you might look into some cognitive behavioral therapy to learn new coping mechanisms for stress and breaking the habit of turning to food for comfort.  There are therapist who specialize in it or some who just do it as necessary.  It has proven useful with many types of addictions.  Or there is a good book out, "Beck's Diet Solution" that is based on it.  You could check that out first to see how it works.

I am four years out and regained 20 lbs.  Since the new year I have lost 9 of them.  I am going back to the basics of protein and portion control and adding 30 min. of exercise to my day.  It is possible to get back on track and lose.  I started out at 398, so I know how scary it can be to have so much to lose.

Good luck.
