New Year's Resolution - 4 years out and regain! Need to restart, regroup, etc.
Hi All,
Although I dread making yet another New Year's Resolution that I'm bound to fail I want to try again....Okay, that last line set me up for failture but I'm serious. I had gastric bypass in 2004 and have gained back most of my weight....highest 325 lowest 188 current 284. I can pretty much eat whatever I want and don't get sick. I've had massive thyroid problems in the last two years that have caused their own bunch of problems. I'm not sure how much of the regain is due to my poor habits or to hormones but I'm trying to find a happy medium.
So, here is what I propose - let's start a group. Restart from the beginning....even try and due a week, or a few days. of protein shakes to kick start and then move on. Going back to the old rules of eating, getting enough water in, vitamins, etc. I'd love a few people to join me in this and to help form a support group.
I'm so mad at myself but I want to try again. Since the surg. I've had numerous medical issues come up and I'm not sure what is because of the bypass and what is just normal age? And it's so frustrating when docs, specialists, don't know or discount what I say because of the bypass - they either ignore it as a possible cause or automatically assume it's the reason for something.
So, how about it? I'm hoping if I have somewhere to be accountable, with people who know where I'm coming from, I may be able to get back on board. I don't think my stomach has grown and my cravings are weird...sometimes I have to force myself to eat. I just haven't been taking care of myself and that's a dangerous road to be on.....
Enough of my rambling....I hope some people join me....I could really use the support.

My surgery was on 12-23-04. I lost nearly 100 pounds and have now regained 53. I am wanting to restart my weightloss. I have never responded to a posting but I was inspired when I saw your note.
I feel motivated to stay on task.
I believe I have regained due to return of old habits, less movement and probably a stretched pouch.
I am serious about this adventure and would love to have support along the way.

i TOTALLY need to regroup. i had surgery about 3.5 years ago.. i lost 125. had a baby 8 months ago and of the 125, ive gained 10 of those back and the 10 looks like 30lbs! its ridiculous!! when i lost the 125, i still wasnt THIN. i need need need to do something.
what do we do??? what about group emails daily to each other or anyone who is in???

Wow two Michelle's! I can't tell you how happy I was when I saw there was some response to my post. I have relatives that want to do the usual New Years resolution but it's not really the same since they haven't had the surgery.
So, here are my thoughts....we should post our weights and maybe weigh in once a week. I really need to get back to basics so I intend to do protein shakes for at least two days (or as long as I can handle it) to break myself of sugar and caffeine cravings. Not sure how I will swing that one. I also want to get blood drawn to check what my levels are at - I've been horrible with vitamins.
I'm debating going to a local gym. I've joined gyms a few times, paid for a year, and then don't go. I also have a gazelle at home that I never use. I think I may look into one of those Wii things - looks like they have exercise programs that appeal to everyone.....
What would you guys like to do? Any suggestions? I'll email those that post their info.

Well I am on the same page as all of you with the exception of my age when I had the lapband. I am looking for some support as well...I am 18 years old and I had the lapband surgery when I was 15 years old. It was a great surgery and I lost about 85 pounds and then I moved out of state...didn't get my fills like I was supposed to and now I am back to almost my starting weight at 320.
I finally am back to where I used to live....and I have an appointment next week for a fill, talk to the doctor and a nutritionist. I am meeting with a new doctor at a place alot closer than my actual doctor because it was 1 hour and 30 minutes away which is hard on me.
This is going to help me get back on track and help me have the motivation but I need some other ones. I feel like I am going to the doctors and they are going to look at my surgery as a failure.
I am thinking about joining weigh****chers again just as extra support but I am not sure yet.

There is a great group called Back On Track Together whose members are just like all of us (i'm in there too . ) Anyway, check it out. Just go to groups and type it in the search window.
I am learning that there is a lot more going on than just going off our food plans. I am learning that there are a lot of issues attached that started way back (trauma, crises, disappointment, relationship issues etc). I am learning that we need to face these issues that caused us to use food as a coping mechanism. Once we have acknowledged them, we need to do what we can to resolve them through whatever support means we need. Then once we have done that, we can start to heal and use good healthy techniques and tools to win this battle. I am in the middle of one now and seriously need to tackle it.
Unfortunately, the surgery doesn't deal at all with the mental issues or bad happenings of our past. So, I hope to see you in that group if you wish to join.

Wow! First time I've posted a new thread and had it go "HOT"...lol. Hey, it's the small things. Thanks for the suggestion about the other board and I will look into it. I'm mainly looking for a small support group to touch base with while I try and get myself/health back together.

initial loss - 130 and about 8 lbs from personal goal and 15-20 from doc's goal
anything weird since surg? I developed an underactive thyroid and I've had a lot of trouble with my teeth (a lot of cavities)
not married
no kids
biggest diet vice: soda
vitamins? I'm not as compliant about taking them as I should be and the doc put me on oral vit D because my levels were low. I've had regular blood workups done and all seems okay there but I'm basing my judgement on info I've found online.
other medical issues since surg? I can't take time released medication and I have to grind up many of the pills I have to take. The absorbtion issue is a problem when I need medicine that must be monitored: pain medication, anti-depressants, thyroid, etc.
Okay, I've put the washline up anyone else want to post their personal info?
