New to the Board with a Question

I had lap band surgery back in 2005, I had a wl goal of 110lbs; I did lose 52 lbs, but gained back 35 lbs. I have had adjustments to the band, but still able to eat a normal plate of food without any issues. Now my family doctor has directed me to a liver specialist. Has anyone had issues with their liver? I go to the specialist in January for more tests because as of now, my blood is showing fatty acids in the liver, which means I have toxins that can be sclerosis to the liver, cancer, or I just need a WLS that suits me. Is slippage possible without any warning signs?

Sorry about deleting my first reply, but for some reason I thought you'd asked the question on the BMI  over 50 board and I had written suggesting you try this board, which  you obviously already have.
I should have just edited my initial reply, but I hit delete before I thought of it.
Anyway, if you're not getting any replies on this forum, you should try the lap band boards. I'm sure people will have answers to your questions there.
Good luck!

Hi Angela!  I'm so sorry you're having problems.  I had a fatty liver with elevated liver enzymes too before I had surgery.  That was one of my deciding factors for getting weight loss surgery.

I had a duodenal switch almost 9 months ago.  I have lost 111 from my highest weight (95 since surgery) and am about 13 pounds from my personal goal of 140 pounds.

All of that aside, though, my liver enzymes have completely gone back to normal!  In fact, my last values were even a little low.

If you haven't checked into the DS surgery, I highly recommend it.  You can learn more about it on the forum here at OH or by visiting http:www.dsfacts.com.

Good luck to you!

HI there,
Almost all overweight/obese people have a fatty liver condition so whichever WLS method you choose, the fatty part of the liver will decrease.

I think non-alcoholic fatty liver comes in two varieties, one that's pretty benign and one that isn't.  When it isn't, there may be something to DS that has advantages over other choices.  But there isn't much research on that yet.

I think you hit the nail on the head that you just need a WLS that suits you!!

I was diagnosed with a fatty liver, and enlarged spleen because of the fatty liver and that scared the heck out of me...thus the drastic move to have WLS. My doctor told me that I would have no fatty liver after I take off the weight. I'm counting on it!

Did your wls surgeon say he saw the enlarged spleen?  Did he have any comments about it?  I am so freaked out right now on what to believe.  My specialist is anti-Mexico surgery and will not believe his diagnosis.  He won't even look at the DVD of the biopsy of my liver.
What type of surgery did you get?
Thanks

To refuse to see the CD of the surgery is irresponsible.  I'd be finding a new "non bigot" specialist.
