Getting rid of the crap-band in a few weeks!!!

Just thought I would post this. I'm getting this thing out of my body for good.

Yes, I lost weight

Yes, I lost all my weight and maintained for almost 7 years

Yes, I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread until I was over 6 years out

Yes, I now have permanent esophogeal damage

Yes, I have tons of damaged tissue were my band has rested for over 7 years....(They are starting to look at the damage done to the area when removing it, even though the patient had no symptoms)

Yes, it completely "broke" one day (not mechanically) and I was throwing up acid all night long

Yes, I rocked that thing like there was no tomorrow

NO...I would not do it again.....less invasive my *ss!

The only good thing I can say about the band...Having a second WL surgery (VSG), I know alot more about weight loss, and will not make mistakes again....Thinking my band was going to start working again, I gained alot of weight ...that is completely my fault....next time I see that scale move 3 pounds up, and it's not "that time"......I'm breaking out a can of whoop ass on myself....

The claim of the lapband being "less invasive" is just SO incredibly wrong, isn't it? I know I had three surgeries... one to place it, one to try to "fix" it when my stomach twisted into a Figure 8 and I couldn't poop for almost 2 weeks and then finally another surgery to remove it when I was just about ready to kick off. I won't even get into all the "Pain Management" treatments I had to have... neverending!

I'd never recommend it to anyone and that it is still marketed as being the least risky and least invasive is, at best, false advertising.

Good luck to you with the revision.

good luck!!!  Don't let too much crap run out of that big pie hole .  I don't believe anyone has ever gotten a guarantee in life - on anything especially WLS.  True long term studies my dear are not out.

I do however, from my heart of hearts wish you every success with your revision.

That's right Zee,  I had my band in for 2 years now.  I have had some problems it slipped and I currently do not have any fluid in it.  My doctor wants to go in and reposition it but is in no rush.  With this problem I have I do not blame the band.  After all It's just a tool some time tools work and some time the don't.  It did not fail me If any thing, I believe I failed it by not following band rules in which I believe happens when all blame the band.  It just don't go bad on it's own it needs a little help!!! With my slippage of the band, I still love it and stand by my decision in having this surgery.

Actually, they are finding out that the bands "just go wrong"....I was meticulous as a band patient, lost all my weight, and maintained for 7 years.....Let me know how you are in 7 years....I loved my band up to 6 years out.....For the rest of my life I will be on medication  for esophogeal damage due to the acid that was backing up so bad and coming out my nose at night, not to mention the amound of scar tissue that is filling up around my band where it sits.....In my opinion...it's now a crapband....My doctor won't even place them anymore.....And I'd rather spew "crap" out of my pie hole than acid any day....And I believe this is the failed WLS site...if you don't have a failed surgery, why are you here

Post on the the VSG board. 90%, if not 100% MUST remain on pills like Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium . . . ACID reducers, ACID reflux, HeartBurn medications.  Most people try to get off them in 6mos, a year etc. but come to find that it is just an effect of the sleeve to have stomach acid problems.

I believe the body still produces the same amount of stomach acid as it did for the pre-op stomach and now with just about 20% of the stomach remaining still produces the same, which is too much.

REMEMBER, WLS is MANmade.  Anything MANmade is NOT perfect.

And yes I would get a sleeve if I needed it, but I wouldn't go into ANY thing in life believing that it would be the end all be all.  This is real life we are living and there are plenty of bumps  - and that does not make it bad.

Good Luck!

Some people end up on PPI meds after their sleeves, but I had atrociuously bad GERD pre-op and post-op I have never once even needed a TUMS let alone my Nexium.  I would, however, take the GERD back in a heartbeat in exchange for not having to deal with the numerous issues I hear about with the band.

Not at all bashing the sleeve.  I personally love my band AND it is NOT perfect.
