I had Roux-en-Y in Feb 2001 lost from 455 to 219 then was forced to gain weight during back to back pregnancies 1 miscarrage 2 live births. I dilated my stoma during this process and have been gaining sense. I am now at 345. I am exausted all the time. I hurt all the time from bad back and knees. I am borderline diabetic, anemic, have hemipelegic migraines, PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome, depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and gurd. my stoma is dilated to where I never have anything in my stomach. my original surgeon said he would have by pass the entire stomch if he could do it over however he is retired. I have Molina insurance and it would help if the doctor took the insurence however if the doctor could work on a payment plan with me that would be ok to. I really need help. I recently had H1N1 and survived but it was ugly sense I never have anything in my stomach everything goes direct to my bowels and so when I get ill it comes from my bowels and all the bacteria with it which is dangerous to my health. took me 2x the usual length to get over the flu and my doctors want me to get revisions I want to get revisions I need help I donot remember the name of the surgery he recommended. Other doctors concidered lap over roux en y but they said my pouch is too small for the band to do any good it would slip off. I heard there is something called duadenal switch I donot know if that was what he was talking about but I know I need something done to improve my health. PLEASE Help Me.!!!!! My 2 autistic 6 year old boys need me I am their only parent in their lives. PLEASE I beg of you help me!

It sounds like a revision to the DS might be your best (even only) option. Come over to the DS forum and learn more about it. You will need to find a surgeon very experienced with RNY to DS revision, as this is a difficult and complex operation - the best list of DS surgeons is available at dsfacts.com.
You can even start a thread on the DS forum regarding revision and I bet a number of people who have been down this road will reply.

Many on the DS forum have had revisions from RNY to DS with good results.  You should post over on that forum.  Also, go to DSfacts.com to learn more!

I second what the others have said about visiting www.dsfacts.com and the DS forum. Also, the revisions forum might be of help to you.

I was a "virgin" DS, but I had my DS at 344 pounds. Today, almost two years later, I am sitting comfortably at about 150 pounds. My body still has to figure out where it wants to be, weight-wise. As lonng as I get in my vitamins, protein and water, I eat what I want to eat. Meat, cheese, salad, dessert, fast food, etc. The DS is amazing and has given me back a normal life. To look at me eating, you'd never know I had WLS.

You absolutely will need an experienced DS revision surgeon for your surgery. Not just anyone can do it. Many docs will tell you they can do a DS and then they'll tell you after your surgery that you could not get the DS because of XY or Z so they gave you a distal RNY or something else you did not bargain for. THEN it turns out they really DO NOT know how to do the DS after all!!!

The best revision surgeons, in my opinion, are Dr. Rabkin, Dr. Keshishian and Dr. Greenbaum. Their contact info is on the DS surgeons list at www.dsfacts.com. You may have to travel to get the very best care. You are worth it. I traveled from Chicago to San Fran to have Dr. Rabkin do my DS and it was worth every effort and penny, 10 times over.

Best of luck to you, honey!

Hi there, I had a revision from RnY to DS in May '09, and couldn't be happier. I first had the RnY in April '05 and after losing 90 pounds in 8 months, I stopped, just stopped losing and not going anywhere. I had 40 more pounds to lose. Then after about a year of a big stall, I started gaining. Dr. Keshishian in Delano, California did my revision and he is truly an expert in revisions and as Nicolle said so is Dr. Rabkin. BEsides the ones she mentioned, I thought that Dr. Husted also did great revisions and he is in Kentucky, not too far from you. I did not know about the DS when I was searching about the RnY, but it is the top of all WLS. I wish you well and yeah you should frequent the DS forum on OH and you will learn so much.

Hi,

You also may want to look into the MGB (http://clos.net).  It is difficult to make decisions like this so do the research and chose the best method for you.  Good luck!

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

Hi,

I had RNY in 2003, and got down to a low of 175, but crept back up to 220. My body stayed at that weight. I would have accepted that, it's not 328, but I had a condition caused by a band. The doctor had used a prolene mesh band around the top of the stoma, and it caused massive problems. Foods were always getting caught, I was constantly throwing up, and I became vitamin deficient.

I decided to revise to get the ring out, and after reading everyone's stories, I decided to revise to the DS. I just had surgery on the 21st so I can't give you any results yet, but I'm doing well, tolerating stuff, and sipping my protein with no problems.

In my research, I found that there are very few really good revision doctors. Husted is one of them. I went with David Greenbaum in NJ because he's the closest (an hour and a half south) and amazingly he was on my insurance. Do your research, visit the revision board and the DS board. I hope that everything goes very well for you.
