old bandster/ old sweetster
I had my band done on June 27, 07 . loose and gain, loose and gain. my sweet intake has been crazy. my last checkup and swallow showed it was too tight. a small amount was taken out. better but I have had chronic gerd. I had started on a 14 day prilosec and it has worked well, but it seems I can eat anything. I need support and I need to make this band work for me . I was 340 pounds at first then the lowest was 288, now I am 298 again. I have not achieved any major weight loss. I get depressed and eat more cookies, ice cream, candy. Is that ridiculous or what. Self sabotage to the max. I will be making an appointment before xmas to see my doc. But I feel I have not done my part. Less sweets more protein and exercise I have not . I need you all support . any old bandsters with a 4cc band with experiences and advice. also I will not go through another surgery. I wll do this thing or bust a gut trying

Then...good luck with that busted gut? (I'm not sure what else to wish you...but I can tell you that although the band didn't bust my gut...it tried to bust my esophagus..so busting a gut is not just an expression with the band.)
What's with the commitment to something that doesn't work for you just like it hasn't worked for thousands of others?
Yes, I had a 4cc Inamed band. It caused problems with my esophagus. Eventually all I could eat was soup and ice cream and I even barfed that up. I regained my weight and had the damned piece of crap yanked out and had the DS. I lost more weight in the first two months with the DS than I did in three years with the band.
We now know that the tipping point--the fulcrum--for weight loss success with the band is a BMI of 46. That means that if you were under six feet tall (with a weight of 340), you should never have been given the band in the first place because research shows that people with a BMI over 46 simple do not do well with the band.
So, YES, you need to deal with WHAT you eat. But part of the problem here is that you are in that group of people who probably should not have had the band to begin with.
Sorry,
Sue

Go **** yourself, you poor, pitiful (that's what you want to be known as, right?) wimp.
Realistic is not synonymous with "downer." If you find Sue's posts to be negative, it may simply be because you don't care to face reality. Some people see truthfulness as being "rude." But, I wish someone had been more upfront with me when I went in for my screwed up surgery back in 2003! I could have done with fewer ass-rainbows and more honesty, that's for sure.

That is good information, I have had the band for 9 months lost 13 pounds to start preop because I did not eat anything. Now I throw up alot my bmi was over 46 now that I have been on these websites feel like I picked the wrong surgery, I also feel like they steered you into the lapband scaring you out of Ryn. I weighed 389 to start. how do you get the band revised. what is the criteria for that.

Have you talked to anyone about developing additional stress reducing strategies? I remember several years ago a professional telling me that one of the differences among those who are stress eaters who gain weight vs. those who don't is that those who don't use multiple strategies to deal with stress/depression/etc. So while I turn to food (and particularly sweets and crunchy snacks), someone else might go for some ice cream, then take a walk, gripe to a friend, have a good cry, shop, etc. So they have other ways of dealing with their issues rather than turn to food all the time like I did. As different things work for different people, you might want to find other things to do as a substitution. I knit a lot of lace--keeps the hands and mind busy--and read books that inspire me. Some times it is just a small effort that works for me but other times I literally have to get out of the house.
I can't give any band advice as I didn't have a band. But I do wish you the best with your efforts whatever you decide to do.
