I read all these stories and the pain I feel is devastating.  I am surprised Weight Loss Surgery hasn't been stopped. I see NO signs of any doctors, etc., trying to help anyone.  Just people who had a lot of hope and faith in the doctors and the procedures.

There's lots of success stories.  This is the failed weight loss board, so that's all you'll see here. Come over to any of the other boards and you'll see lots of success, especially on the DS board.  Lots of happy campers there!

I agree there are alot of wonderful success stories.  Weight loss surgery is one of the many tools people chose to lose weight.  Some work better than others.  One mold does not fit all.  I like to use the analogy of the clothing designers who advertises one size fits all.  Well what they are saying, if you are between this size and this, it wil fit, or if you are this body shape to that body shape, it will fit.  They are hoping the majority will fit.  This means not every tool fits every person.  You just have to see which one fits the best.

About the stories in here, you have to understand something.  We bring alot of "baggage" into this journey.  We didn't one day wake up and say, "hmmm, I'm going to make myself fat".  There can be a variety of issues, traumas, crises, cir****tances that trigger the use of food to cope.  Unfortunately, the medical community doesn't always see that the obesity issues go deeper than just the food.  So, if you really listen to alot of the stories, there is alot more going on than just the food issue.  This journey is a whole body healing journey, not just limiting the amounts of food.

Ok, I hope I have cleared up a little of your concerns.  Albiet, weight loss surgery is not a cure, nor are any of the other programs out there.  It's just one of the many tools out there that can help folks become healthier.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

The successes far outweigh the failures. There is absolutely no reason to stop Gastric Bypass surgeries. They are a fantastic tool, not a magic pill, that will help people lose weight.

If you eat the wrong things, eat too much, don't exercise, don't drink water...yeah, you will gain weight. Its the same, gastric bypass or not.

Whoever you are......with no pic.......I wasn't even going to respond but here it is....Your message means nothing to those who had failed procedures from the beginning.  You response isn't surprising though......The MGB was presented as almost MAGIC.............you weren't there, I was.

It is devastating to see those who had such hope in this life saving procedure unable to reach their goals for whatever reason, but there are sooooo many success stories and I for one am glad I put my life in the hands of the surgeon....

I would have died a lonely, premature death without it...and am successful wit a 75% excessive weight loss in 7 months.... not far to go to normal..... the idea they would stop doing this life saving procedure because some do not get thhe result (usually for metabolic reasons) is really so not right.

Have we stopped treating childhood leukemia because we lose some of our precious angels despite treatment, or stop treating breast cancer because some succumb to that devastating disease... not a chance, and this is the same. It is a miracle cure from a lifetime of torment to most, so I think you need to research a little better before suggesting it is stopped. That would be the worst thing that could happen in my mind.

That said, this forum is a forum of lost dreams and hopes sometimes and can be heartbreaking to read. I come here to offer support, and remind myself that I must be grateful and use this tool well as I am one of the lucky ones. I could easily have been on here...it was literally a lottery as to whether I would have some of these issues and as I don't, I will use my tool extra well out of respect for those who haven't been so fortunate.

Absolutely agree with you, KissTheSky! I am in the same boat as you!! My life would have been far worse off without this surgery. I was extrememly successful with it.  The fact is, it is successful more than it is unsuccessful, and the idea of suggesting stopping it because a small percentage of people don't see the desired results that they want is rather assanine. Sure, I feel bad for people who have not gotten what they want out of the surgery..but there is no basis to stop performing these surgeries. People need to do research, think long and hard, and realize that it is not a magic pill...no matter how the DRs make it sound. Luckily my team of doctors made it very clear that I may not lose as much as I was hoping/expecting, but that I would lose enough to becoem a more healthy person..
