I had my lap-band placed 2 years ago and lost 50 pounds and then had severe stomach pains.  The doctor took out all the fluid from my band to ensure the pain was not caused from it.  It turned out to be my gal bladder.  It was removed and it has taken me almost a year to get back to the fluid limit I was before.  I have gained back 25 pounds and have NO restrictions.  Don't know what to do.  Add more fluid - not much more I can add, OR try something different - injections, ???? Really disappointed in the process. HELP!

Hey,

Sorry for hearing about your difficulties. I too have the band and having difficulties. The only suggestion is to go back to the very basics and get small fills until you get restriction. I am actually going to get the bypass done and I am not able to struggle anymore.

Some people get a Roux en Y revision of a lapband if the lapband does not work for them. RNY does have better stats for weight loss and maintenance than lapband. Check out the research--but in the end, it all comes back to eating less, exercising more.

Do you exercise?  I am curious.  I eat no more than 1200 calories a day and workout 4-5 days a week.  Do you log what you eat?  Are you eating healthy foods?

MY u should try gastric? I have heard of alot of people who go from band to gastric. Honeslty when I 1st thought of having weight lose surgery, I was all for the band. After going to support groups and talking to my dr he told me that if I wanted to see long term resukts to get the gastric. I was scared to get gastric because I one day wanted to have kids, and I wanted my babies to be ok and healthy. My dr assured me that if I waited my 18 mo that I would bring kids into the world just fine.
I am 3 mo post op and have no complications what sop ever! I so sorry your going threw this, I pray u find peac and a solution. Be blessed

All weight loss surgeries are "gastric."

The Lap Band or Realize bands are Adjustable Gastric Bands, the DS is also called the Gastric Resection w/ Duodenal Switch, the Sleeve is a Gastric Sleeve.

VSG on 08/26/08 with
A LOT of VSG'ers were prior bandsters.

Great restriction forever, ghrelin reduced greatly by having the stretchy part of the stomach that produces most of it removed!

Just something to think about.

You know there are sometimes complications with any surgery.  It really depends on how the person eats and works out.

She has no restriction so she can eat almost anything at this point.  The key is what you put in you must burn off.  Lets say your body needs 800 calories to live and you eat 1200 calories for 10 days.  Lets say you dont work out.  The other 400 calories are stored in this case.  3500 calories is a pound.  So 400 into 3500 is about 8-9 days worth of storing the 400 calories per day you gain a pound.  So if you are working out you could burn 400+ and burn the fat that stored.

You should realize you have no restriction so that means you can eat anything.

I had my band placed in now for almost two years now.  I have lost 97lbs  and my band have slipped twice.  I do not blame my band at all!! I worked this tool.  I watched what I eat and work-out 6 to 7 days a week.  I knew going in this the band only works if you work with it.... bottom line.  My  doctor needs to go back in to make repairs and I am OK with that.  I had 1 cc in my 10cc  band when it slipped the second time and all fluid had to be taken out.  Even with no fluid in my band, I have restriction my doctor and I believe that I am one that have restriction with just having the band in placed.  You should really go back to the basic get a small fill and remember that the band is just a tool, you have to work with it for it to work for you.  pay attention to and look and feel for signs when while you eat.   YOU can feel when you get full we need to slow down and pay attention to the signs given to us.

My band was never the same again after I had the fluids out due to complications.  They keep filling/unfilling.  Just as I would have a little restriction, stomach acid would shoot out of my nose all night long.  I am only 7 lbs less than when I got the stupid band.

Converting to VSG at the end of this month after 5 years of fighting with the lapband.
