Update w/ my band over RNY
Hello Everyone...
It's been about two months since I posted last.. Just a lot going on..
Lost my job.. Chasing my 10 month old.. Sold my house (Yeaaa!) ..Moving, etc.
Just a recap... I had RNY in 1993.. I was 289lbs and lost down to about 165 lbs..
Gained almost all of it back..
I had band over RNY April 30th this year. I was at 258lbs.. I'm currently at 225lbs.
I do hurt most of the time when I eat. I feel the band is more painful then the RNY (On a daily basis) I cant eat anything spicy. I may have the band too tight but leaving it alone for now.
Hope everyone is hanging in there!!
God Bless,
Jeannie

I have always wondered about the band. I had RNY 10/04 and lost 110 down to 225. I am pretty active but have never been able to lose any more. The surgens office that I went to are now doing a type of re-adjustment to folks that stretched their stomachs. My doctor is not doing it even though others in his practice are. He have consistently told me he considers me a success. I have not regained the weight,, (maybe 10 pounds) just never lost as much as many.
Last week I finally had my TT and so far (although it is probably too soon to tell) I lost about 20 pounds from the TT. I was at 235 and today weighed at 216.
Do you feel you remained compliant with the rules your doctor gave you? Of course I have no idea what you were given but I was told to not have sugar as one of mine. I have remained nearly anal about that one. I know I eat too much bread/carbs. I don't eat the volume of food that I did before the RNY but if I look at plates of food around the table from ladies I work with that have always been thin I do eat more than them.
My sister had lap band last year. I think she hast lost down to the 160 range +/- She was smaller than I was at our heavest.
How long did it take before you gained it back? That has always been a real fear of mine.
Hugs and kisses.

Judi..
I had my original bypass (RNY) in 1993,,,, I kept my weight off till about 4 years ago when I started to regain...
I depended on the restriction I had to let me know when to stop... However I did start drinking carbonated drinks... and my stomach was allowing me to eat more.. ( My stomach and stoma had stretched) and of course before I knew it, I had gained 50 lbs, then 60... etc..
Good luck with whatever you choose..

ummmmmmmm the Lap Band should never be painful. Please do yourself a favor and schedule an appointment with your bariatric surgeon as something is terribly wrong.
Leaving your band too tight is a very foolish thing to do. No doubt that you are going to have a slipped band, erosion, or esphogael dilation. Then you will have 2 failed Weight loss Surgeries - will your insurance pay for a third? If they do, I'd suggest having a Duodenal Switch - if your traumatized insides are still good enough to do that.
Sorry I just feel so upset that you know something is wrong yet you are playing. You have a child at least one that you mentioned that you are responsible for taking care of - how can you do that when you don't take care of yourself?
Next thing you know, you'll be saying how your Band has failed you when you obviously do not follow ANY rules to succeed.
Good Luck

sherri, i to had gastroplasy in 1997, i have gained all of my weight back. i went on the internet and found dr. sayeed ikramuddin at the university of minnisota, in minneapolis, he is doing my revision on march 25, he accepts most insurances and as long as you go through the program of having alot of test done first, i am sure he can help you, i live in southeast missouri, so i drive back and forth, it is a 14 hour drive, but i have a brother who lives in minneapolis, so i get to visit him, after surgery i am going to stay a week or two there in case there are complications, one suggestion that i have is to get up in the morning and act like you just had surgery, do the liquids for a week, then the puried foods, then the soft stuff, take your vitamins and exercise, that might get you back on track, my dietician recommended that to me and i have already lost 35 pounds since my first visit with the dr., he wanted me to loose at least 30 pounds before surgery, so i am well on my way, so give that a shot, or give the hospital a try, hopefully you will have some luck.
