Detached stomach trying to reattach?

Has anyone else experienced this? I haven't posted in 2 1/2 years. I couldn't believe it until I looked back on my previous posts. Anyway, about 2 months ago, I had an episode of nausea & almost throwing up. I could have thrown up but since I don't like to, I fight it. It passed but I felt miserable all night. Then, it happened again last month. So, I made an appointment with Dr Smith. He performed an EGD on 9/1 and determined that there were indentions on the pouch. This was a result of the detached stomach trying to reattach. Huh? He had explained this to my husband since I was still asleep from the anesthesia. Dr Smith prescribed Nexium. I'll take this for a couple of months & then have another EGD. If the indentions are still there, then there will possibly be surgery. I hate taking the Nexium but would prefer not to have another surgery. Unfortunately, I've had a surgery every year since my rny in 11/2005. Left ankle tendon repair 6/2006, hernia repair/abdominioplasty 3/2007, emergency appendectomy 3/2008 & abcessed molar & infection drained 5/2009. So, if anyone can offer their experience or information, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Your doctor was trying to explain the phenomenon of post-surgical  adhesions, or tissue (primarily scar tissue) growth after surgery. When a wound, especially an abdominal one, is created and then sewn up, the wound edges can end up "growing onto" tissues they were never meant to. For instance, the lower part of your stomach, during the healing process, put forth scar tissue that attached itself to the upper part of the stomach, or your pouch.

Adhesions occur in the majority of surgeries involving slicing through multiple layers of different kinds of tissue, and usually do not cause difficulties for patients.

Yes I have it and its called a Gatro gastric FISTULA and its not fun. I can not even eat a piece of chicken or meat as it feels like the dumping syndrome. I have the old stomach attached to the new one and ANOTHER POUCH FORMING INTO A STOMACH. It can be deadly as its pulling in with me all of my insides and the revision failed on me because I had a mesh put in and it all scared up so the surgeron could not break through it. If you did not have a mesh put in yet for a Hernia repair get IT FIXED ASAP.
I am almost 5 years out this November and Like you after 2 years this started to happen and I had Open Gastric Bypass and then Had tummy tuck with Hernia repair of whole stomach, then a revision that failed as they couldn't get passed the mesh for the hernia repair as the mesh scared up totally and when the surgeon cut me open through the mesh my insides came out and he closed me right up.
So yes I know what you are going through and it will get worse. NOW I need help like you as I cant eat meat or poutry just simple things like yogurt or mushy foods. I am terrified to eat, even chewing 32 times doesn't help. About 6 of 7 days a week I get nauseau like you and I take emitrol which is basically fructose at around 7 bucks a bottle but you can get Walmarts Brand for under 3 bucks a bottle and works the same. I would love just to throw up but afraid to like you so suffer hours on end..
If you find a Doctor that can fix this let me know, I live in South Florida & will travel anywhere to get this fixed. Don't be afraid to gain some weight if it does connect for you as I lost 173 pounds in 9 months but since this FISTULA (remember that word cause thats whats it called.) I gained almost 100 pounds back & you dont want to know about the depression it causes..

I was wondering how this turned out for you?  Yesterday I had an EGD because of throwing up again, anemia and Vit D def.  The description your hubby received sounds similar to what was described to my hubby.  I've been waited for their office to call since they told him they want to schedule another  swallow test to see if something is going into the old stomach.  One thing I've noticed that bothers me is I never feel full and healthy food doesn't stay down, but bad stuff does.

I have just been diagnosed with having my bypass stomach reattach itself back to my pouch abnormally. I have all types of pain in my upper stomach, along with nausea , and   And compacted  bowels with hard gasy pains. The dr informed me that my old stomach is also receiving food. And I have regained 4 lbs since my surgey. I am 5 weeks post opt. I'm really scared and uncertain on can it be fixed.  Any information would be great.

Well, my situation changed again. I continued to have pain but Dr Smith referred me to another physician since he doesn't perform gastric bypass surgeries only lap-band. Dr Provost is located in Denton, TX. He had me have a scan to determine if my swallow process was okay. Everything worked fine. Then, this doctor was rude and asked me how much I was eating and how I was biting my food. He even wanted me to demonstrate a bite! I was so mad that I didn't go back for the further testing he wanted me to do. This was back in March. I still had pains and discomfort on my left side but dealt with it the best I could. In July, I started the HCG diet through my GYN. I had gained some weight and wanted a kick start to my weight loss. At the end of the 6 weeks (successfully lost 20 pounds, 2 sizes, even while on anti-inflamatories, prednisone & cortisone injection), I saw the nutritionist on staff *****commended a supplement since I had my gall bladder removed. After 2 weeks of Phosphatidyl Choline, my pains were gone! Apparently, since my diet before the HCG diet of cheese, nuts, avocados, etc which are high in natural fats & oils, my liver was working hard to process which created the pains. This supplement works to aid the liver. I'm so happy now that I'm pain free! A nutritionist helped save me lots of time, effort & money. I even called her to thank her for her assistance. Hope this information helps you as well.
